What's a good gaming laptop? (For a casual player)

To run games like Left 4 Dead/PubG? Or those single player story-line based games like The Last of Us?

Preferably around 1.5k or less. Sick of playing games and lagging every 5 secs. Casual player, so don't need anything super fancy. Just no lag, good quality graphics, and doesn't overheat easily.

    Thanks!

Just look around for something with a decent processor, something like an i7, decent dedicated graphics, an SSD, and at least 16GB of memory. Lots of options out there, lots of manufacturers who have sales and so on. At that price you aren't exactly getting an ideal custom build so might as well just go for a good deal. If you find some stuff that looks interesting just post it so we can give some feedback and help steer you in the right direction.

Thanks!! Is there anything similar that's a little smaller/lighter? Is that brand good for the games I'm trying to run?

I'd put lenovo legion brand laptop at the upper mid tier of gaming laptops.

Here's another one. Same laptop except it has an i7 over amd but is smaller at 15inches for 1200.

    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops...liate%3Abv0as6

    MSI

    i7 9750
    Rtx 2060
    15.6 inch 144hz display
    16gb ram 512ssd

    For 1019.

    https://www.newegg.com/black-msi-gf-...7wWQLLyEzkAbAA

    Here's another one.

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator...ios+300&sr=8-3

Look for a gaming laptop with at least a gtx 1660ti but I recommend going for an rtx 2060 to future proof it. As for processor, look for any i7 with a 9750 and up or amd 4800 which is far more superior. Also look for one with a 144hz refresh rate, 16gb of ram, and adequate amount of ssd/hdd to meet your needs. The laptops I listed or laptops with specs I listed above would flawlessly run any games and current triple A games flawlessly.

Acers are my favorite as far as big brands go but Lenovo also makes a great laptop and Alienware is known for gaming laptops. That Lenovo that was posted is actually a great suggestion for the money, I would recommend it.

The entry level of this would also be a good gaming laptop IMO for similar money, it's probably better than the Lenovo for gaming but it's also a bit more expensive.

Brand doesn't really matter in terms of the games you are trying to run, but it matters for build quality and fan specs.

You have plenty of budget headroom to get what you want.

    You are looking for
    120 or 144hz 1080p display.
    2060 or 2070 max q GPU
    16GB ram
    Ryzen 4800h or i7

If you are prioritizing thin and light.

Please keep in mind that heating is always an issue with gaming laptops. Unless you're truly going to be moving around and gaming at places other than home there is very little reason to get one. I'm not saying anything negative about gaming laptops, but I made the same mistake years ago when a desktop would have been the better option. I realized I rarely actually used my laptop for gaming unless I was at home and so eventually I moved to a nice gaming desktop and a work laptop which was cheaper and lasted much longer. Hauling around a large ass 17" gaming laptop that gets hot as **** gets old after a bit when all you end up doing is school work or browsing with it until you're home and it's less upgradeable. I would evaluate your situation and see if you would be better off getting a mid tier gaming desktop pc that you can upgrade in a bit and a decent work laptop for the same price as a high end gaming laptop. If you still go with a gaming laptop cool, but you may want to look into getting a cooling pad to go under it to preserve the life of your components. No matter what they tell you it's going to get hot as **** if you're playing modern titles with better graphics settings enabled. Either way good luck and enjoy your purchase.

Yeah, I used to have a desktop and didn't really see the need for it since I'm not gaming daily. Maybe once a week, if that. Travel for work as well and figured I could haul a gaming laptop around if I really wanted to, definitely can't do bigger than 15" though, it'll be too heavy. Already have a work laptop so wouldn't have to worry about that. Thanks though, excited to try out a few new games!

Ick, Asus laptops are terrible, I had one and it was the worst gaming laptop I ever owned. MSI are probably built better but I just think they are so ugly and tacky looking, never wanted one. Always had good experiences with Acers, but then again I never got their gaming laptops.

Look I'm shopping around for a gaming laptop too, so no hate, but do you really need to spend 1.5 k for casual games??? Seems excessive if you just want to play the Sims or whatever. Again no hate but you don't need an ultra strong graphics card or processor for casual games...those games don't take much to run.

You could get away with spending half that or more!

That depends on what you mean by LAPTOP. That Lenovo Legion is almost 9.5 lbs...

The cheapest gaming laptop is the $670 Acer Nitro 5. Then you need to spend $50 on a stick of ram and $50 on another Hard drive.
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-ni...&skuId=6413246

Then you will have a spectacularly specd laptop for under $800.

    - It will also be 6lbs with a bad keyboard, monitor, build quality, and is thick and chunky. -

IF you want a portable gaming laptop you are probably going to be spending $1200+.

Bought an ASUS ROG laptop for the first time over 3 yrs ago. Still performs well and have had no issues. When it’s time to upgrade, will likely get another ASUS.

Pretty common for work purposes. Reduces the number of expensive licenses and subscriptions you need. Also nice to have all your files all the time.

If you use a dock it is zero trouble at all.

Haha I know the feels of needing two monitors for work. Makes life so much easier. Wish my company would send me one of those super wide monitors.

i bought a gaming laptop that had a 144hz screen and gtx 1660 in it. It was really nice but gaming wasnt worth it. The things CPU got like 90 degrees almost instantly and the fans sounded loud as ****. Luckily it was a refurb and whoever refurbed it literally tried to tape broken ribbon cables to the motherboard to make the usb ports work. I returned it immediately and decided no gaming laptops for me.

Yup heating is an issue that's why you need a gaming laptop with liquid metal cooling. Read about it, the difference is immense for laptops.

Asus has one at the moment ROG strix 17
