I'm looking into getting a position for software sales at the moment and would like to know how the market is.
Are companies still open to buying SaaS/software products in these current conditions?
I've been in tech recruiting for 2 years and have done in person sales for several years previously and would like to make a pivot in my career.
I spoke to one of my recruiter friends and he told me the market has been tough so far this year.

It depends on the industry you sell to. I did a lot of pre and post sales work in different SaaS healthcare vertical markets. It was hard to get companies to switch vendors, but when they do, the upside is incredible for you -- these are massive enterprise implementations. I would take the opportunity if I were you. Sales skills + IT skills (learn through osmosis) = you are unstoppable.

I don't know much about actually working in the field, but I do know that fundamentally, cloud services is king in this economy. Our entire economy will be revolutionized over the next five years by cloud services, and if you can't be a software enigneer, working on the business/sales side seems to be a safe route for a career that will always be in demand.
