    Run ethernet through UPS?

After realizing how completely retarded it is to have like $3k worth of PC, monitors, etc plugged into a basic ass surge protector, I just ordered this:
    https://www.newegg.com/cyberpower-cp...quicklink=true

Curious though on how many people run their ethernet through it for surge protection as well? Is there a loss of performance associated with internet speed in doing so?

It should be passive filtering and protection which should not introduce any latency unless they're implementing a retarded design.

Probably wouldn't add any noticeable latency, but will add another point of failure and frustration when it breaks.

I have a Cyberpower UPS and it has saved my ass more times than I can count, so great purchase. That brand in particular is awesome with zero issues, whereas I've had another brand (can't even remember now) fail on me after a few outages.

As for ethernet, you should be perfectly fine. I had my router and modem connected but forgot to plug them into the UPS over a regular surge protector the last time I was doing some cleaning and haven't been arsed to go without internet for 5 minutes to change it back; zero difference as far as I can tell in internet speeds.

Yeah I was looking at some APC brand backups. Quality seemed to be pretty hit or miss and most people said dealing with their customer support was a pain in the ass.

Well, I've tried a lot of them, and what I can say is that Cyberpower UPS is a nice choice for sure. They produce maybe the most reliable stuff, in comparison with other manufacturers. Sphere IT is pretty complicated section of nowadays life, and I would rely only on hardware and software, which can be recommended by other people. This rule also works with IT companies, which provide digital services for corporate clients.

Yes! That was the one. Awful quality despite coming with a certificate saying it was tested/passed.

Fortunately it was only hooked up to my AV receiver, which is pretty much enough of a tank that I now use a standard surge protector, but the experience really put me off for how little "abuse" from outages that it got over the Cyberpower UPS.
