    Suckers Offloading Covid Kit

As we all knew would happen, those suckers who paid way over the odds to get kit during lockdown are now trying to sell them for the ridiculous prices they paid. In some instances that equipment it's now back on sale online for the normal price.

I've seen cheap benches and plastic weights being advertised for over £150, and then being reduced when no one takes them up.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Here in the UK, with the rise in covid infection rates and the introduction of local lock down's and the threat of gyms having to close again, it may just be gougers trying to offload crap at inflated prices.

New equipment is slowly coming back into stock, but much of the decent manufacturers equipment is still only available to pre-order, , many pieces won't be available until early 2021, new prices have also risen and I suspect will continue to do so.

For anyone with the budget and space, commercial equipment is plentiful, new and used prices have not increased to any great degree and in many instances asking prices have dropped, there are certainly deals to be done with used commercial resellers and new equipment suppliers.

In my area it's still low supply, but there has also been a significant drop in demand. Prices have dropped sharply, but they are still double what they were pre-COVID.

As for commercial equipment, forget it. The real estate crowd entered the gym equipment arena months ago and has snatched up the full inventory of nearly every gym that closed, which has enabled them to ask pretty much whatever they want for commercial pieces. $2,500 for a commercial leg press. $1,800 for a pec deck. $1,000-1,500 for various single function pieces.

In Seattle, 45 lb plates still seem to be in high demand but prices for other stuff have come back closer to earth. I just sold an EZ curl bar and a 45 hyper for above the usual 50% price you'd expect for used, but not retail or higher like I saw at the height of Covid. I'm not trying to screw anyone though. I see stuff that's been sitting for weeks at ridiculous prices. People just aren't paying it anymore.

It's very different here in Europe, a lot of commercial equipment gathering dust in storage, it's pretty quiet on the open market, but resellers have large amounts of stock and are prepared to discount, which was not the case pre covid.

$2,500 for a used leg press?, I'd definitely be looking for new, I was recently quoted for anew Panatta Leg Press Bridge for well under £3k.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. $2,500 is more inline with what you would have paid for a used Rogers Hip Press or Power Squat Pro pre-COVID. Now a lot of guys are asking that for a run-of-the-mill 45° leg press. Pre-COVID the 45° leg presses were going for $700-950 or so. I ended up driving 4 hours (each way) to get a pec deck for a reasonable price.

One of my hobbies is searching for weights and equipment. I used to enjoy going to PIAS, even though I was usually disappointed with what I saw. I haven’t been to PIAS since the pandemic began and the amount of equipment for sale on FB or CL is minimal. I see very few commercial pieces and one of the local companies, CSM, has nothing on their site. I actually think they may be closed since their CA site is. Actually I’ve been messaging someone about a piece in an existing training facility but they have been quite inflexible about availability to show me the piece. It may be a long time after the pandemic that people begin to unload their equipment. They may hold on to it just in case or realize that the home gym is the way to go.

I checked craigslist locally today to see what kettlebells are going for because I might want to offload some. Saw a guy selling 3 pairs of used kbells in the 90-106 range and asking $3/lb i.e. $1500 for the whole set. The ad is over a month old. LOL. Meth's one heluva drug

Just sold a pair of rubber coated 65lb hex dumbbells yesterday for $300. Granted, my starting price was $325 but I expected to get haggled down.

I can't remember how much I paid for them, but I bought them brand new when the lock downs started so you can imagine it wasn't exactly MSRP prices. Turns out with my bad rotator cuff, I only ended up using them like once this whole time so I decided to sell them. I think I managed to recoup all if not most of what I paid for them.

Definitely, sounds like we may be in an equipment shortage situation through the middle/end of 2021. They are already talking about a potential surge in COVID cases this flu season, then on top of that the vaccine is still a good ways out. But I would hope once an effective vaccine is mass produced we should be able to put this thing to bed.

Well, here in the UK the demand for equipment is still very high, I placed my Hammer Strength Iso Shoulder Press, HS Low Row and Watson Pendulum Squat up for sale at 10pm on Wednesday, by 7am on Thursday morning all 3 pieces had been sold at full asking price all were in excellent condition and the price reflected this, I'm very happy, but I can't help reflecting whether I could have asked a little more, of course greed is one of the 7 deadly sins.

I just didn't expect such a rapid response, they were all fairly high end pieces, it appears the used market is still strong. I got such a good deal when I ordered my new Panatta equipment, the differential between the units I sold and the new equipment isn't that great.

Hopefully I just have to wait another 3-4 weeks for my Panatta order, in the meantime I'm going to have a lot of empty floor space.

Ah gutted I didn’t know you were selling the low row. I have done a deal for a hammer bicep machine at a decent price although the guy is dragging his heels making me a bit nervous

Damn, I didn't realise you were looking for a low row, the same guy bought the low row and the shoulder press.

Judging from the reaction of my buyers, they were anxious to tie up the deals. I think a lot of equipment buyers are more nervous at the moment, some sellers are stalling or reneging on deals if they sense they can achieve a higher price, I hate this practice, as far as I'm concerned a deal is a deal.

As I said in the other thread, home gyms are going to become way more popular, and people aren't just gonna give up on their investments. (They have seen the light). Some people have began returning to commercial gyms, but far fewer than there were a year ago. What you are seeing are probably resellers trying to profit off the pandemic, and many of them being successful.

I'm still seeing people list stuff at dumb prices, and not seeing the listings sell very fast. Stuff like a Fitness Gear weight set for $550.

After clearing house in the spring I've managed to fill up my gym again, so time to purge. Didn't pay COVID pricing for anything. Most of the stuff I'm getting rid of wouldn't have been in high demand at the height of panic times, so I guess I'll see how fast it goes.

Here in NY metro the prices are still sky high. Gyms in NJ reopened around Labor Day. I was back a few weeks before that and they are not crowded at all. People are staying home.

I got lucky and paid a bit less than retail for my Powerblocks, adjustable kettlebell and bench. You cant find stands for the weights right night so I built my own.

Saw this today on FB Marketplace. Whether or not he is selling it to try and capitalize on Covid prices, I don't know, but regardless I find it hard to believe that anyone would ever consider it at that price. Any thoughts on how soon this will sell? (ha ha)

Man I've been looking for a decent deal on that row for years. In the rare instance one pops up around here in FL, it's gone in seconds.

I wouldn't pay an 8-story tall crustacean from the protozoic era 1/10 of that.

Even at the height of the pandemic I don't think he would have gotten 1/10th that. Looks like chit.

Those two items have to be in the 'Hall of Shame' for incredibly overpriced nonsense.

I've got two listings active right now. I'm asking a ridiculous amount for my power rack and full set of dumbbells. I honestly don't want or need to sell them, I just don't have the room in my current gym to have them all up. If someone wants them badly enough to give me close to what I'm asking then I'll "let" them go, otherwise I'm fine with storing them in case I move into some place with a bigger workout space.

    Cool

Lock downs are going into effect for the second round in my area, so all indoor gyms are being closed down again starting on Saturday.

Not all that far from me then. I'm sticking by my prediction that a second wave of cases will trigger a second shutdown here as well. We shall see.
