Are Vanderbilt, UMichigan, and Tulane considered prestigious schools?

Trying to decide between the three. Finally getting my degree. I’m old but not too old.

    They're good but I wouldn't say prestigious.

I consider prestigious to be ivy league though..which those schools are not.

I'd put Michigan the closest though

None of those schools are bad. Hope you have some legit scholarships for Vandy and Tulane or you can get UM to waive that out of state fee

My test scores aren’t high enough for the Ivy League. 1490 SAT. I’ve also the Ivies are a liberal indoctrination zone. I’m more of a centrist. I also suspect that most of the students there are young, which I am not.

Michigan is considered a public ivy with a gigantic alumni base.

Vanderbilt is basically an Ivy League school, similar to Duke, Stanford, Emory.

Tulane is less renowned than the other 2, but is probably the one I would pick to attend. New Orleans>Nashville>The state of Michigan

Once you get into actually working for a bit and meet a lot of people in the work place - you start to realize schooling =/= education =/= intelligence.

If I was evaluating someone to work with me, where they went to school would be of low concern. Go wherever is cheapest for you, college is a financial scam and you shouldn't play their game.

Vandy is a good school its just that Duke is a better option if you want a prestigious school in the south. In my experience its all about networking while at college and you should go to school near where you want to work. Alumni base is not talked about much but extremely important when choosing a school. I'd hire a kid who went to my school before one who didn't

I went to University of Michigan, and it was a good time. Whether I recommend it would completely depend on your specific situation. It's a small city, which is a good thing for focusing on school but it could make social elements a bit tougher. Depends on your personality.

If you're an older student trying to go to undergrad, I may not recommend UMich just because it's the type of school where everyone does 4 years from 18-22 and leaves town right away.

If you want to move to a big city, UMich has a massive alumni network that is very incestuous and will probably give you more job flexibility than the other two schools. But you'll likely have a better time at the other two schools.

Michigan clearly the most prestigious of those. You can go anywhere from Michigan.

Vanderbilt does well in some graduate schools. Not really worth spending money on for undergrad, except to live and work around other rich kids.

Better off just transferring to a top program after 2 cheap years than Tulane. Connections really only exist in the top echelon. Not worth paying for undergrad in Tier 2-3 schools for connections.

this. Choose the cheapest one OP. All of those are good schools.

Vanderbilt and Tulane are Tier 2-3 schools?

I know that they’re elite. I just wanted to know opinions outside of Wall Street Oasis.

Tier 1 == connections you cannot find elsewhere. Harvard, Oxford, Chicago, anything ranked top 3 in a program you want. Georgetown/Duke/Cornell probably around the border for these. Tier 2 are very difficult to get into except do not give you a catwalk into the world of elites like Yale would.

Many firms screen hiring from all but a list of 20-30 global schools. Somewhere like Georgia Tech might make the cut on these for their top-3 engineering even though they do not rank so highly overall.

Isn’t Vanderbilt more of a target school than Georgetown? At least according to Wall Street Oasis. I also wouldn’t out Georgetown nearly on the same level as Duke. Georgetown imo is only marginally more prestigious than a school like Wake or Tulane.

My buddy got into Duke law but rejected from Georgetown, for what it’s worth.

For law schools the T14s are the golden ticket. Duke Law is for sure better than Georgetown Law. It’s not even debatable. Duke has never left the T14 while I think Georgetown left it a few years ago (now its back at #14, but you get the point).

Vanderbilt and Michigan are prestigious. I don't know anything about Tulane.
