Why do US highways have such low speed limits? (Cannonballing)

Most of ya'll are right, there are tons of terrible and distracted American drivers.

European comparisons seem to be inadequate because from the conversations I've had, they enjoy the driving experience, and likely commute much less VS America

Manual Tranny cars also force you to PAY ATTENTION while driving, VS auto. Euros have more of those too, although i'm sure it's less and less every year.

People who don't want to drive in Europe have plenty of other methods of transportation, but gramps and grams in US can only drive to get where they want to go. There's a ton of people on the highway that flat out hate driving and passive aggressively drive. They'll even ride the left lane at the speed limit to stop other people from speeding.

We also have a low entrance fee to become an eligible driver. Almost anyone can get a license and it's pretty hard to lose it.

Our roads are also not as well maintained as they are in Europe. Croatia barely has any money but their roads are in pristine condition, but they also have a lot of toll roads. So their infrastructure is well-funded.

Plenty of roads and interstate systems in the US can afford to have a higher mph limit, but there's just too many bad drivers out there for that to make sense.

50% of the time I go to pass someone going slow and they gun it to get beside another car and block me from passing them. ive learned how to beat 90% of them, you see them start to speed up to make their block, so you let off the gas and coast down, they notice and slow down too, opening up the gap, then you floor it and by the time they realize it, its too late and you've got em.

I get a chuckle out of Road Police in econoboxes trying to speed up to block me from passing and merging ahead of them, not gonna happen with a 60-130 in the mid 5's

Does the autobahn have fences or something because i see deers or wildlife all the time on main highways

I wish they would remove speed limits for route 1 going to keywest FL because they have fences up for alligators

I dont do that but when I'm not on the highway and just chilling and driving the speed limit, there is nothing more annoying than someone behind you riding your bumper because they want you to go faster and accommodate their schedule. I never speed up for those drivers. they will have to find a way to get around me without inconveniencing me. if it's the left lane of the highway, that's a different situation. I usually stay in the right lane so I can drive slow and chill.
