It's unfortunate that we've gotten to this point but all nuance is pretty much gone. It goes all the way back to Michael Brown where some said he ran and got shot in the back and others said he reached for the cop's gun while trying to fight him. Whether the shooting was justified depended entirely on what happened. Didn't matter though because nobody really knew but people rioted anyway.

Here the big question imo is whether the cops announced their presence before the guy started shooting (on that note I'm pretty sure in most states you can't just start dumping bullets the moment someone tries to get into your house. Doubt that would hold up as self-defense, though I wouldn't blame someone in that situation). Once again we have conflicting info and it won't matter anyway because the riots are going down.

The fact of the matter is that even if this was a bad shoot the left has already thoroughly tarnished their own cause and credibility. Even righties seemed to be on their side with the Floyd thing (at first) but they couldn't help but **** it up.
