I've been using contacts for over 10 years, initially, I used to wear them 8-10 hours a day and replace them as recommended. In college, I managed to stretch them out and always wore them the entire day, I even had a period where I was wearing dailies for 1-2 weeks even while sleeping. I was told the eyes need oxygen and so sleeping in them all the time is a bad idea and unnecessary.
I now wear monthlies and take them out almost every night but wear them till they start bothering me which is usually around 3-5 months. I have not had an infection or ulcers since I stopped sleeping in them.
I have a friend who wears three month lenses for an entire year or slightly more, taking them out every night until they are foggy and also does not suffer from eye infections.
So the question here is, why do they insist we change them every two weeks or a month when they are good for half a year? All contact lens wearers will eventually get veiny looking eyes in any case so what is the point of changing them so often when yearly lenses used to be the norm? Is this all a marketing strategy?

Yeah in college I got ulcers a few times from sleeping in them. How long do you use dailies and which brand are you using? I found some to be too thin to reuse for over a week without tearing them. Do you also find they get drier over time? For me the optimal option seems to be old school monthly contacts that I can stretch out to 3-6 months.

First off, if you know your prescription you can buy directly from VisionPros website.
I had a pretty weak prescription since 2002, started wearing contacts in 2008. In the beginning, I wore them slightly longer than recommended. Then from 2011 to 2017ish I stretched a year's worth of contacts and only changing them when they ripped or became unbearable to wear. Then about a year ago, I couldn't keep a new pair more than a week without ripping and just being uncomfortable in general. Stopped wearing them completely in Feb. No glasses either. Lucky enough my eyes are pretty decent in general. Was using Acuvue 2s.#sunyourballs

As long as you take them out nightly and occasionally clean them with multi purpose solution you'll be fine. Everyone I've ever known that got an infection or other sort of problem related to contacts got it from sleeping in them

I've used "monthly" contacts for over a year with no issues (yearly check ups).
That said, change fluid daily, and don't sleep in them. I'll swap them out sooner if they feel kind of gritty.
I get mine from Canada through this site as well:

They don't require a prescription

Don't play games with your eyes.
Take your contacts out at night. Clean them and dispose of them when the time comes. If cleaning them is too much of a hassle (it is for me), buy dailies and toss them every night before bed.
You get one pair of eyes. Easily the most important sense of the 5. Take care of them.

I did this for years...would constantly sleep with them in and wear them beyond their lifespan...never had any issues beyond dry eyes sometimes. Guess I got lucky.
Got lasik several years ago so no more glasses/contacts. Worth it if you can do it - a little pricey but it evens out with all the $ you'll be saving on glasses/contacts over the next 20-30 years. And if you've worn glasses for a long time like I had (since 7th grade) it's a life changer.

I used to wear dailies for months, like 6+ months lol.. Take them out every night tho.. At the end they got weaker, so had to change to a fresh ones and repeat.. But I've dropped them all together and got some nice glasses instead. My eyes gets dry quick so it was piss take to have contacts in for long period of time.

i use monthly contacts and clean them with hydrogen peroxide twice a week and after 1 month I know I need to replace them because after some hours of use they just get incredibly dry and my eyes start turning red
but if you'd rather have infections, keep using them more than the recommended time"If not me, then who? If not now, then when?"
