Going to be a stupid question.. IT illiterate so please forgive.
I've got a 32" MSI monitor, whenever i put VLC media player into full screen to play a movie or put Netflix into full screen - it doesn't actually go full screen.
The image is in the middle and there's a good 2-3 inches on both the left and right hand sides of the monitor that are just black.
It's as if i'm watching it on a 27" monitor again.
Are there settings somewhere to change this so the image does in fact go full screen?
My gaming does go full screen so i'm wondering whether it's just the computers way of putting what will be the best quality display on - ie putting it truly full screen will stretch or distort the image??

Videos are usually either 16:9 or 21:9. Regular content like YouTube and TV usually being 16 and movies being 21.
What is your monitor?
If you're watching older content it won't even be 16:9 meaning bars on the side.
If on a web browser try a chrome extension to make vids full screen, if on vlc or something just play around with aspect ratio or zoomSometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Its just the aspect ratio the video was recorded at. Some movies have "larger" black bars because it was meant for a certain screen.
Nothing you can do about it but basically zoom into it, but you will lose out on viewing the outer portions. Other software can actually manipulate the aspect ratio to fit your 16:9 screen, but doing so will stretch your images in a displeasing way. like long faces
just the way movies are made brotha. they are made for the big screens.Last edited by rocketfish; 09-24-2020 at 11:55 AM.
