    Chimaev Hype Train

Alright, let's take a step back here and here's my reasoning for why I'm still not 100% convinced on the hype train

Chimaev has 3 fights in the UFC

John Phillips who was 1-3 before Chimaev, 6 submission losses and 22-10 in MMA
Rhys Mckee, first fight in the UFC and 10-3 record
GM3 2-4 in last 6 fights before this one and a journeyman who was never that much of a prospect. 6-5 in UFC so 50/50 win/lose pretty much

Now the guys I'm drawing parallels here are the hype trains like Suga Sean. He was so hyped because he beat Wineland who is 24-14 in bantamweight so same as GM3. The first actual real test was against Chito.

I want to say Johnny Walker as well but he is too much of a wild child to draw any similar connections. Sean is the only great example of exactly similar path and my stance is, Chimaev is in the same position as Suga before chito. The only difference being, Chito was top 15 and after Chimaev runs through Maia he will face a top 10 or maybe even top 5 in middle or welterweight.

Other somewhat hype trains that have been derailed - Sage, Hall, Volkan Oezdemir, Lombard.

I'm personally hoping Akhmedov in middleweight or Chiesa/Luque in welter. Pls not another guy like Brad Tavares who is 23-10 and on his way out.

So to finish this pointless thread off, one of my feet is on the train and the other is still ready to hop off. Not fully convinced.

I think it is not that he beat them but how he beat them. Obviously he is way ahead of the last 3 opponents he basically murked, so he is a good contender. The question is how far he can really go? His technique is impressive, he moves good, he has one punch ko power, his grappling is great... all of that points to a really good prospect. If he beats Maia, I think Edwards and Thompson are both good tests.

Whatever the case, this dude laid down a blue print to how you market yourself. Him taking fights so often while talking about killing everyone has propelled him to a spot that he really would have no business being in if he wasn’t active and remained quiet. He just fought GM3 and has the top contenders talking about him, just think about that. He is getting his name out there all the time. Smart kid

Kazmat beat Ikram Aliskerov and handed him his first loss and is now 10-1.

Kaz is running through everyone, dude is legit as ****. Put him against Leon Edwards, Ponzi, Chiesea, Masvidal, etc and watch him beat the fuk out of any of them

I noticed that. He looks almost sinewy but still big and he moves like it too. It's like he is barely containing the explosive energy. Still, he hasn't been truly tested. I hope he doesn't get too confident and underestimate an opponent that's on another level from the ones he's fought.

Chimaev is not hype. He is a true phenom.

Johnny Walker is a dud, he is a top tier hammer but a bottom tier nail. He has no chin and no takedown defense to support his striking prowess.

O'Malley is exactly the same. He only takes favourable fights, can't take a kick and hasnt been tested.

Chimaev has no holes. He is explosive, has cardio, top tier takedowns, ground control, ground and pound, and striking. There is nothing to expose. Anybody, any time. The only question mark going into fights is whether it will be a KO or a submission.

Chimaev has already shown top tier skills, he's the one guy who can walk into a top 5 fight, he doesnt need a build. With a build though he will be even better.

The only chance against him is the punchers chance, the leg lock chance.

I would love to see him fight Adesanya. Colby/Usman would be nice too. You see Colby adding better strikes to take the wind out of Woodley/Usman during cage ****ing fights - Chimaev precise striking would be a real issue for these one dimensional guys.

Hol up Bob, you know you're my bro in the MMA section but are you seriously talking him taking on the best guys in the world right now? He hasn't beaten anyone in the top 15 yet. I get the hype and he's got more skills than most up and comers but let's not get too ahead here. These are still the top guys in the best promotion in the world, granted some of them are on their way out but they proved themselves to get there. I'm not saying it's not a possibility, I'm saying he's not been tested against the top guys in the world yet.

What college did Lebron go to? None, cause he didnt need it.

Kenny Florian said Chimaev was second best grappler in MMA before the fight. Chael says he's ready for anybody now. He's a phenom, not a Conor McGregor hypebeast.

Not sure why Dana is pissing about then, give him a title shot in both divisions if he is literally the greatest fighter of all time and a grandmaster of MMA. Get him the belts right away so he can start making the big $$$$$$ for UFC. It gets boring after a while watching him crush cans who have more losses than wins in the last 4 years.

All jokes aside, he's been wrestling since he was 5 years old and a phenom but I'd personally like to see him against Luque, Gunnar or Vettori to prove himself.

I'm not really calling for Dana to throw him in the deep end ASAP but if he did I'm saying he will float.

Dana is trying to figure out how to play the hot hand too. He's holding a royal flush but needs to draw money out of the other players first.

It's also better for Chimaev to keep collecting checks and fighting people who leave him untouched.

Smart kid

Good points. This dude's career isn't even 3 months old, yet he has surpassed veteran's who've been in the game for years. Why? Because he's not a diva and is actually willing to, scratch that, WANTS to, fight when he's healthy.

Anyways, he passes the eye test for sure in all departments regarding technique. Only question mark is his chin. His head shape doesn't look like someone who can take a lot of damage to me. Hopefully we find out soon.

Usman easily. This shouldn't even be a question right now. He's not gonna be fighting like this as he goes up in competition. Lets give the guy a year minimum before we start talking about fighting the champ of the division.

If he does fight Usman though, with more experience, if he can make the fight like Abdul Razaks last opponent, and use his range with long knees and elbows, I think he will be a big problem for Usman.

    lmao casuals alert!

what happens when a guy retreats backwards in a straight line (circling not even once), hands down, zero head movement like he skipped beginner striker class rolling with punches and then gets pressed up against the cage with nowhere to go.

anyone would have knocked Gerald out.

Jesus I would have lasted longer even in 8 months training its been drilled into me hands up circle circle!

Khazmat probably has power, but this doesn't prove it.

Yeah but to ko a Middleweight as a Welterweight like that does prove he has power.

I think GM3 was scared ****less tho. He retreated real quickly and just looked like he didn’t want to be in there with him.

GM3 circled into it and had his hands low cause of the opening body kick and the known takedown threat. I think GM3 was just thoroughly confused.

This is the best thing about Chimaev, there is no preferred place to be, except in a fight with somebody else. lol

Yeah, watched a doc on the guy who leads the region. He literally gives 0 fuchs and has done some of the nastiest things known to mankind. No wonder Chimaev looks like a stone cold badass if he grew up with this chit.

    - Rape & torture
    - Forced disappearance of people
    - Kidnap & murder of innocent Chechens
    - Murdering as they please
    - Gangs roaming in the night literally ending people on sight
    - Illegal prisons where relatives of his enemies are held
    - Honor killings
    - Shoot to kill orders if any russian police enter the Chechnya region
    - Child MMA fighters
    - Rounding up gay men and applying most of the previous bullet points to them
    - A video leaked out in which armed men, loyal to Kadyrov, displayed the severed head of a Chechen guerrilla (who was killed in July 2006) for public display in the village of Kurchaloi, marking the brutality of his forces. They mounted the head on a pipe, together with blood-stained trousers and put a cigarette on him. It was displayed for at least a day as they came back a day later to record it again.
