Your phone is constantly recording you and recording your voice. It saves it for marketing purposes, for making better translations of voice recordings to understand it better, and more.
You can opt-out of some of the more adverse marketing, but if you think you're not being spyed on by your phone you're delusional.
The only way to stay safe is to root your phone and install LineageOS on it (formally known as Cyanogenmod). That way you can use your phone without Google spying on you 24/7.
iOS users are f*cked though.

This stuff is getting out of hand, but imo it’s not always nefarious. In many of these instances it is something as simple as you use chrome on your laptop and phone, so since you are logged into your chrome account google knows this phone goes with that computer, so target both devices.

On Android, do the following:
Turn off personalized ads
Go to your Google Account.
On the left navigation panel, click Data & personalization.
On the Ad personalization panel, click Go to ad settings.
Click the switch next to Ad Personalization is OFF.
Next download the app called AppChoices from your app store and then opt-out of all the ad companies listed. If you live in Cali you can choose to have your data erased.
Then, download an app called TRUSTe and opt-out of all the marketing data in that app as well. That will anonymize the interest based ads you see and keep you just a little bit safer when using your phone.
I use AdGuard on my phone too, if you have to download it off their website and install it as an unknown app, but it blocks a lot of ads. Their is a free a premium version. I tried the premium version trial which claimed to block ads inside apps, but I didn't notice a difference. There's also Blokada 5 which has similar ad blocking features.Representing Milwaukee 414!

None of this happens to me because I don't use social media.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

This has happened to me srs.
Talk on the phone with friends about some chit and next you start seeing ads about it browsing random websites. I’m not big into FB or insta.
There is snooping going on randomly I majorly doubt.
There have been times when randomly phone battery seems to get drained much much faster than a normal day.
I’ve given up tho - the addiction of this phone is too satisfying to care about privacy anymore**^^ gone ^^**

except they don't "listen" your conversations. if that were the case don't you think there would've been a whistleblower case by now? and secondly, if that were true, do you not realize how much data usage that would be? how much data does a 1 minute voice call use? now multiple that by every minute of the day x every person who has FB/IG on their phone.

L M A O.
I pity people like you. Whistleblowers huh? How about you look up what those spyware devices people buy from google and amazon do and the very real fact they were recording peoples conversations.
Do you not realise how much infiltration the NSA does through Apple, Amazon, twitter, faceberg and Google? All of those companies are government backed entities.
Explaining this to you is like I am talking to some room temperature IQ Indian scammer.

Chitposting on Misc still counts as social media, but I know what you're saying.
LineageOS still has Google servers and features baked into it though, and most people who install Lineage will go and install Gapps as well, so you end up with the exact same Google software on the phone at the end of the setup.
Look into /e/ Android for a completely non-Google operating system. Still supports APK installation:
