In your opinion is 260lb bench good?

Just hit 260lb bench press. I’m only 152lb so it’s a 1.7xBW bench. I’d personally call it ok/good but not good/great. I really can’t see myself saying my bench is good/great until I hit 300lb+ cause Then I know it’s good.
Also I’m not saying I’m not happy with it just Wondering how the community sets their standards🤷‍♂️

    At 152lbs, 260lb is a good bench.

Ultimately your degree of satisfaction is set by your own subjective parameters.

I would personally say that is quite good, congrats!

As long as you're not doing a touch in go, bouncing off your chest, using less than a full extension, etc., that's impressive for your weight. I was much heavier than you the first time I got 260. Keep up the good work.

Good is a relative term. When compared to the average guy walking down the street, you are Superman. When compared to competitive power lifters (which you probably are not), you're not in their league. Compare yourself to the average guy walking down the street.

I would just compete with and challenge with myself.
    As mentioned it's all relative.
If you want to compare yourself either compete in a powerlifting meet or check the records for any PL org and compare where your at to them.

Feels like in general, the taller the lifter you consider, the more common you see higher bench:body ratios.

    Way easier for a 5’3 150 manlet to bench 315 than a 6’1 150 lanklet

I just feel like don't see it that often though.

Though yes, the 10 lb. per 1 inch rule would support that.

Wouldn't bigger guys be typically more fast twitch dominant?

Agreed with Ironface. I'm 6'2" and am a naturally weak bencher. I also don't count the rep unless it's touching my chest at the bottom with my back flat on the bench and unless my arms are fully extended at the top. For me, that full range of motion is literally just shy of 2 feet one way. A lot of shorter guys seem to be moving the bar half that much.

Deadlifting on the other hand came a lot easier, likely owing to the long arm build. For instance, I got 405 after only about one year of regularly deadlifting and 225 on the bench with the same time investment. IMO those are not analogous difficulties, with the bench being worse in relative terms.

Isn't it supposed to be a 3:4:5 ratio? That's only like 17 pounds shy on Bench.

I mean looking at your numbers now and your bench is advanced.
