You missed a recent exchange between ID and myself, understandably, in which he invited me to a cross burning. That was tongue in cheek, of course, but part of his attempted twist to make it appear my calling him out on racial bias was the equivalent of accusing him of being a member of the Klan. The standard M.O. is to take a statement, elevate to hyperbolic proportions, and then cast oneself as the unjustified victim of an egregious accusation.

So my close there was equally tongue in cheek, but you are correct, it was inappropriate to the extent that others would read it who are not in on the joke, and would not be expected to be aware of the context.

One more shot at this. First off, slinging around accusations of racism are not often meet with smiles. Probably neither are those of peedophilia. First, I believe what I said was that you were racially biased. That's not the same as being a Klan member, and it's not even the same as being an out and out racist. In fact, it's hardly an extreme accusation, because racial bias affects huge numbers of people, possibly the majority of people in this country, if not on the planet.

I grew up immersed in a racist society. I lived in South Louisiana during the Jim Crow era, when racism was not only near-universal, but mandated by law. Several times I heard adults of my parents age reminiscing fondly, or even bragging, about lynchings they had seen or taken part in. It affected everyone and everything I knew. Including me. Much as the violent talk disgusted me, it was impossible not to absorb racist attitudes and expectations. It took me many years into adulthood to rid myself of the majority of its vestiges, and it's a part of myself that I will always remain aware of.

People who grow up with racial biases in their surrounding culture usually absorb them unconsciously. They are not deliberate character flaws. Most people are not even aware of them. I'm sure that holds true for you, ID, and explains your offense at being called out about it. I didn't say you were a deliberate racist, I didn't say you were in favor of oppression and slavery, I pointed out that you were operating out of a racial bias. I stand by that. It was true then, and it's true now. By denying, you are taking no steps towards correcting it. It's not an easy thing to acknowledge and it's not an easy thing to correct. I know this from experience. But it's there, nonetheless. And it's not difficult to see when one is not blinded by being inside of it. Direct your self-righteous indignation towards self-awareness, and perhaps you'll find a better perspective.

As for California "values", that is absolutely NOT the point. In fact, that's just another example of stereotyping. It can't possibly be about values when the majority of your post consists of you misrepresenting both the current law and its modification. To the extent that there was a valid "values" angle at all, I actually agreed with you that allowing a 10-year difference is probably excessive. But again, the discretion given to the judges should accommodate that.

What you wanted was to be able to get in a dig about "liberal California judges", and how they are sure to use the new interpretations to allow all sorts of horrific child abuse -- because they're liberal, apparently.

Well, that doesn't fit into the category of racial bias, but the ugly bigotry contained there may come from a similar place. So yeah, that's hardly a way to defend your character.

It was not an honor to be in the same class as this kid, but because our last names we had homeroom every morning, every year.

He would come into home room with uncombed hair everyday sticking straight up and I’d smile at him (cause he sat directly across) he would then proceed to put his hands on top of his head for half the period only to have his hair bounce back up, I’d laugh and he would say “ go to fuking hell” and the teacher would yell at him HaHa.

Actually, my hair does stand straight up, which is why I keep it short. I tried to grow it long for a while, but then I looked like a blonde dandelion seed floating over the rooftops every time the wind blew.

Do you have anyone in mind? I've called out racists in this forum, responding to topics that others introduced and were commenting on. There are very few people of color posting here, and of those who do I don't recall seeing any racist posts from them. So who exactly do you want me to call out?
