It depends. They can be beneficial for energy if you’re lagging a bit but some can become reliant on them.

Whether they’re worth it or not is down to you.

accurate 👌 don't get to the point that you rely on a preworkout for energy/motivation/focus/etc. Majority of that should come from you, but when used in moderation, it could benefit your training

    This.

I remember the first time I used one (Original White Flood). I loved the increased energy and even after my workout, I was at home doing push ups and sit ups. Now though its very hard to take breaks from it because I've grown very attached and most times have to take ALOT to feel the original feeling. Id start with just a cup of coffee and keep going from there. Its not required but its nice. You can also try a stimulant free preworkout or just a pump supplement.

The answer depends on what PWO you take. Some are mostly caffeine laced and will give you the energy to get through a workout. Others have ingredients that prime you up for effective and efficient workouts. As others have eluded to, be careful that you don't become fully dependent on them, although we're pretty much a society that relies heavily on caffeine nowadays, so if used wisely, and with purpose, a PWO can give you that needed edge.

Pre wos are certainly a double edged sword.
Ive had diarrhoea from several of them, one time it lasted all day - and they were all low caffeine, so mustve been the **** that was put into the 'proprietary blends'.

I am currently really enjoying SciMX Xplode(blackcurrant flavour is the tits). Low caffeine at 185mg per serv and 1g L tyrosine which i feel really affects my mood well and i therefore appreciate it more than a higher caff dosage. Also a fkn great price. Shame its 73kcal serv but totally worth it.

Ohhhhh I'm glad I came across this thread. I haven't logged in forever, I've just been browsing here and there over the past 11 years. I've gotta update that picture lol. But anyway, I just posted something regarding this issue on my other lifting forum. For what seems like forever now, I've been buying plain bulk powders online and taking only those. I'm talking everything I take, 4 times a day: morning, mid-day, pre-workout, and before bed. It's better in every way, it has the main effective ingredient, you get more, you pay less, and there are no artificial sweeteners, colors, fillers, etc. The only thing is that most single ingredient powders taste like butt, so I use Blate Papes to take them. I met one of the co-founders recently so I've been telling people about them.

As for pre-workout, that's the easiest to do, and it works.. even much better than any store-bought one I've tried. If you look closely, all pre-wrokouts have the same 5 or 6 actually effective ingredients. So if we know what all the top selling products have in common.. why would we spend extra on them?
The savings is unmatched, the only thing is that you want to have good tubs to put your powder in to make scooping quick and easy.

What I do is just put a few hundred grams of citrulline malate, beta, betaine, agmatine, and taurine in a blender and then add a few pieces of rice so it doesn't cake up. That's an instant 2lb tub of pre-workout powder with no fillers or sweeteners for under $75. And if I am cycling with creatine or stimulants I just add them to each dose. But like I said, this stuff tastes like ass of course, so using a Blate Pape is the quickest way to do it.

Picked up a tub of the new Build Fast Formula Pre, Blitz3d and pretty stoked to give a go tomorrow.

Might be worth checking out, especially at the price that it's at right now. If you follow Build Fast Formula on their social they have a coupon code that gets you the tub for $18 I believe.

Love pre workouts. I have been taking them for years. I don’t consume much caffeine outside of them, besides an iced tea.

The ones with lots of BCAA are very good to take! Choose one without too much stimulants otherwise will cause your BP to go too high during training and can even do damage to heart, arteries, etc.

I like them for the extra energy and push. The only real issues are sometimes I get instant diarrhea, like 5 minutes after I take it, but since I work out at home no big deal. It's just a one and done thing.

Other issue is the sensitivity to the caffeine. If I take it too late in the day I'll be up till 1am. I try to make about 3pm my cutoff.

Also on the orginal Jack3d subject, that stuff was awesome. I had found another back then that had even more dim3 and dhea. I can't remember the name but I do remember going from using the 70's up to the 85's on db bench while using it. I was pushing a lot harder.

I actually found a few of those natty test booster products that have those ingredients. I might give them a shot but not until I'm hitting some sticking points, which will be a while.

I've nearly given up on all supplements. Like many I once considered Whey protein a MUST have after every workout, but now I haven't bought protein powder in 6-8 years and have noticed ZERO difference with my physical fitness. Supplements are great for the top 5% who need that extra edge, but for the other 95% you are just flushing money down the toilet (literally). I do still take PWO's for the caffeine boost and the placebo effect, but I'll openly admit even that is a waste of time.
