    Salt - my new supplement

Has been demonised but it seems it has many benefits - Added to my pre-workout.

I got out of the habit of using salt at meal times and don’t eat processed crap. So my intake hasn’t been huge.

I’m a heavy sweater and my Gym T-shirts are left with salt stains, so I certainly lose quite a bit.

PS My blood pressure is fine.

My wife may have been buying them from you. Salt lamps, salt for food, etc. She sold them in her gift shop about 6 years ago. I remember the guy she was buying them from was named Steve.

I bought a deer mineral block last week. Haven't put it out. But I chip off little pieces of this big mineral salt block and put them in my salt grinder.

Sodium Chloride is Sodium Chloride. You need a certain amount - any more will be flushed out and excessive amounts (like many things) can be poisonous.

Highly skeptical there is anything special about Himalayan pink salt... unless it contains some other active ingredient?

Trace mineral differences are trace mineral differences and not going to make giant differences, if any, especially in body comp goals. Unless you're deficient, but then that's a different story.

I bought some pink salt because its cheap - may or may not have benefits for bodybuilding -but that applies to lots of stuff.

Anyway. the main point of this thread was that salt has benefits to bodybuilders, regular or pink.

PS I also bought lite salt also for the potassium.

Benefit implies some noticeable difference outside of placebo in a general sense. If someone is sweating a lot, sure electrolytes all day, but otherwise, sodium and other electrolytes taken in throughout the day should be sufficient.

A nocebo effect is said to occur when negative expectations happen before actual use

No.That's not what it is. It's a negative effect that occurs when taking X due to having the expectation that taking X would cause said effect or make it worse. It's the exact opposite of placebo. SMH.

Lack of anything happening isn't a negative expectation btw. It's just nothing happening. Nocebo is about seeing a worsened negative effect.

I have a large thermos of water I drink daily. I sprinkle Celtic salt in it.

Stan Efferding (the strongest bodybuilder of all time) encourages 3000mg-6000mg of sodium per day which is 7.5-15grams of table salt per day! Balancing this with adequate potassium intake (he recommends ~4,700mg per day) from whole food sources such as potatoes, spinach, dairy, fruit, etc. is crucial. He even recommends taking 1/4 tsp on your tongue right before a workout and claims it's as effective for performance as creatine or caffeine. It's amazing how much free info he gives out and how knowledgeable he is in the space. Check out his 4 minute youtube video by typing in 'stan efferding salt'!

I recently just switched back to iodized salt for food topping for this reason. I don't want to drink 100% cranberry juice to get my iodine. I still use pink salt on raw meat before cooking, but I now always use iodized salt to top it off and for carbs/veggies to meet my iodine requirement.
