What Is the Most Over-Rated Late-90's Band?
...and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

Greenday is pretty phukken high on the list.
But I think these other 2 are the most....and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

Just lol at the chili peppers bashing. They put out a dope album like 3 years ago. One of the only bands where I can stand the bass guitar not to mention a lot of their lyrics are just ****ing haunting. One of the few bands where singer doesn’t equal frontman as well.
Also you can hate on Green Day but Jesus of suburbia is a masterpiece.
Rage against the machine most overrated srs

I think Sonic Youth is the most underrated band of the 90's.
They got no air play except for "Bull in the Heather", but they put out decades of good music, but got lost in the shuffle... too much good chit going on in the 90's.
I'm just a white guy from the future, I'm completely out of touch
This machine is obsolete

Even if they're weren't dead by then, why would they even be considered overrated?
Perhaps we need to define by what we mean by "overrated". When Nirvana came out, the rock landscape literally changed from hair spray and spandex to flannel over night. Perhaps a band can be massively influential, but yet still be overrated? The two concepts seem mutually exclusive, but wtf would I know.

Rock!“The Misc. is a stone-faced Uncle Sam with Popeye’s forearms and a cocked pistol in each hand. It’s a screeching bald eagle with a foreign Bad Thing in its talons. It’s everything that defines America’s bro culture, magnified and weaponized. But it’s deeper than that.“

STP are a great band, period.
I cringed a bit when they started getting mainstream attention and chick followers who thought they were alternative - Sour Girl comes to mind.
Regardless, STP never got a fraction of the attention in the mainstream as RHCP, Blink and Greenday did.
RATM always sucked, but again didnt get a fraction of the attention of RHCP, Blink and Greenday....and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

Practically no one would attempt to defend them at their worst (“Sour Girl”), but at best their guitar riffs were basic, Scott Weiland had nothing interesting or coherent to say, and they were generally completely unoriginal. STP is worse than you’re remembering.
Not saying they were a bad band, just really really overrated.“The Misc. is a stone-faced Uncle Sam with Popeye’s forearms and a cocked pistol in each hand. It’s a screeching bald eagle with a foreign Bad Thing in its talons. It’s everything that defines America’s bro culture, magnified and weaponized. But it’s deeper than that.“

This.
My iPhone auto connects to my car over Bluetooth whenever I turn my car on. If I don't have Spotify already running or something, it defaults to Apple Music and every time that comes up it defaults to some phucking U2 song and starts auto playing. Pisses me off everytime.
Of course, not enough to make me google how to turn that chit off. But still pisses me off tho.

Of the two posted I could lose RHCP first.
Never got the hype, and then radio beat their easy-rock songs about California to death. I'm OK with Soul to Squeeze.
All the post-grunge bands were pretty mediocre to me. Staind, Creed, Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of Mud, Theory of a Dead man and about 75 others.
There were some catchy songs, but it was very transparent that they were all cashing in on the formula.
How much of it is you being the right age where every radio station and music channel was force feeding it down your throat, so you have a reflexive hate for it now? I have a lot of those, particularly from that late grunge era when everyone was trying to find the next Soundgarden or Nirvana.
I dont take issue with much of what you said, but Interstate Love Song is a masterpiece. It was the perfect song for its moment in time.------♥♥-----

RHCP through Blood Sugar Sex Magik was dope as fuk. Next couple albums were decent. Then they started the suck. They were a great rock/funk band before they became the suck.
There are at least 20 other bands from the 90s much worse than that. Silverchair, Blind Melon, Sugar Ray, Live, Candlebox, Spin doctors, goldfinger...right off the top of my head.Stern Crew
