Buying a truck, new or used raptor or trx

So was going into look at some new raptors after dealership reached out while I was looking around online. Told sales dude I was coming in next week and all their raptors got a 2k price bump. Sticker Msrp was like 73k, they were selling at 76.9k. Price went up to 79k overnight.

Now I kind of want a v8 raptor which will come someday but I’m imagining the limited production v8 which everyone is anticipating will be going for like 100k, I imagine somthing like that will be easier to find and cheaper say 5 years down the road.

Keeping that into consideration I found a 2019 raptor with only 12k miles for 6300. Considering I am going to put 50k down, and my current car is only worth like 6k trade in, I could probably swing outright buying the used raptor. Saving some money on immediate depreciation, then trade in the 2019 in 4-5 years for whatever v8 they got going on by then.

Or I could just fuk it all and go straight for trx, but would have to take a loan for like 30k (instead of like 20k if I got a 2020 raptor)

    Wat do

Just out of curiosity, are you actually going to use it? I see a fair amount of Raptors around here... but Texas has almost no public land to use such trucks on unless you have land or know someone. It sucks, and most of them around here are highway queens.

I would say just get a normal truck and call it a day, but hey if you want one go for it. I'm all about the truck life.

Honestly i would probably use a gladiator more so. The raptors too wide to do a lot of the atv / back mountain roads in the national forests around here where I would actually need off road capability around here.

But I want a big spacious interior for two kids and wife on camping trips. Want to be able to haul my airstream which is only 5k lbs, so I don’t need a lot of towing. And I want to have some fun and be able to gun it and have fun driving around. Need to be able to take in skiing, and need to be able to haul wood in the back for my work. My family does have some land and open field with some bumps and stuff, I could fuk around on, but honestly not gonna try and take it out to go flying around off road. Just like the speed and look, it’s a nice looking truck.

There's a lot of places in Washington to let a Raptor all the way out. Moses Lake/Potholes area is practically designed for high speed off road games and some pretty good hunting and fishing to go with it. FWIW

Work at a dealer where the other side is a Ford dealer. Go talk to the Ford techs about the raptor.

Based off of your financial situation and what you posted, I'd go with the Raptor. Seems like you can afford it and it's a badass truck. Really is my dream truck. I'd go that route and not even think twice after losing all that liquid cash on the purchase. Enjoy it!

Join the Raptor forum and the Raptor facebook group. You could definitely get an 802A with tons of options for much less than $79k. Dealers are making deals well below MSRP all over the US, and Raptors are not the rarity they once were and shouldn't be getting an ADM.

Last year around this time I bought my 2019 new. Sticker was over $73k and I got it for $67,500. It's an awesome truck and if you get it, you definitely won't regret it whether you put it to the limits offroad or in the drive thru at Starbucks.

Lol, you guys have it good down in the states.

Raptor ADM up here in AK is $15k.

I am in a somewhat similar position as my current truck is a 2018 Platinum Tundra. Debating about a new vs used Raptor, or waiting a year to see the 2022 Raptor and new redesigned Tundra.

Local dealer just got a 2017 Raptor with 35k miles in Avalanche grey (favorite Raptor color, only offered in 2017). Listed for $60k, but is currently at service center waiting on Ford approval for new motor under warranty.

New Raptor can be had for MSRP if I’m lucky. But really do like the recent upgrades to the 2021 F-150, and would like those in my next truck since I’d plan on keeping it for a while. No Raptor offered for 2021, so waiting for the redesigned Raptor in 2022 is an option. Especially since it may have a coil rear.

2022 Tundra is going to be all new. Currently on my 3rd Tundra, so am a bit partial to them. Really hope they offer a Pro version the first year.

Dealership in my town was being obnoxious and marked every raptor 5k over msrp.

I told them I would pay for the whole thing straight up cash on the spot and the only bit they budged was offering me 500 more for my trade in...

So I put a 1k deposit at a dealership 100miles away and they are selling me the exact raptor I wanted leadfoot, 802a, carbon fiber, etc etc... for msrp when it arrives mid October. Only thing was no beadlock tires which are a deal from the factory but expensive AF separate. Which is ok since I’ll prolly do a 4inch lift and stick some 20inch wheels on it eventually.

Looking at getting a Leitner design ACS rack but I heard talks about developing one that works with a tonneau cover. I was thinking the Yakima rack that goes with the retrax tonneau cover, but I like the pods on the Leitner rack cuz I could do one for my sewer connectors and dump things for airstream, one for some battery kits, mount gasoline for generator, shovel setup on universal mount for winter, extra storage, would probably move my bugout bag setup to one etc..

Looking to get some kayaks or a raft to stick on the roof of the rack next year for our camping trips. Bikes already go on a mount in between hitch and trailer, gear could go in pods and truck bed. Should even have room for a generator in bed which I haven’t been able to take with our Yukon camping and could get 2-4 3gallon gas tanks to slap onto universal mounts so we can power trailer for ~a week off grid.

I wouldn't have told them this. There isn't any incentive for dealers to take cash these days. The real money maker is financing vehicles with the interest as most people finance through the auto group they're purchasing from. Negotiate a final price, and then pull the cash info at the end.

Enjoy the new truck once you get it!

I always thought the same since it's something you always hear, and it use to be true. I have a few family members that all own a few dealerships together in Mississippi and they've told me how cash is seen now at dealerships. Actually takes money from them down the road. Heard the same thing once I started looking into it further.

I would think it would be different for little used lots though. I'm sure they want to keep things moving. Not sure though.
