Do you kennel train your puppy?
Ignore him completely when you are eating and he will learn that when you're eating he will get no attention or treats / snacks. Negative attention is better than no attention to them so keep that in mind.R 1 35

i think this started it tbh. we began giving him our food and now he can't get enough.
we have a penn cage that we sometimes put him in. was wondering if there was a non restrictive way of making him chill the f out though.
i ignore him but he physically comes up on the sofa and starts going for the plate.Laughing at your team since 2008.

give the stern no, and then force them down, and growl at them.
or if you're too afraid that your dog will hate you for it, they won't, push them away.

Definitely agree with #1, but I disagree with #2. When I eat has nothing to do with my dog, and I don't want her to associate the two.
I would recommend you don't let your dog anywhere near you while you eat, until she is trained. I can set my plate in front of my dogs face and she'll turn away. It's annoying and takes a lot of patience, but even if you have to get up from your meal 10 times to grab her and put her back in her place, that's what you have to do. She needs to be afraid to take food thats not hers.Be the dog Iceman thinks he has

Ignoring a dog is better than giving them any attention, positive or negative, when it comes to issues like this.
You can go the alpha dog route like BigRangs explained and that might work as well. Its worked for me in other areas, whenever I get a new dog I always steal its food and discipline the dog if it has any type of reaction at all. Last thing you want is your dog to nip a kid that messes with its food, so I train any food aggression completely out. But I still find ignoring works better for issues like yours, as negative attention is still attention.

No, not at all, that's just the end result of him being trained. Just keep him away from you and your food, and when he tries to get near you, you put him back in his place. Once he learns, he can most likely be around you when you eat.
My theory has always been that my eating time should not excite my dog. Whether it's getting table scraps, stealing food, or getting her own food, I don't want my meal to get her excited. So she always ate her own meal at her own separate time. She's well trained now and none of that stuff matters since she does her thing and I do mine.
EDIT: I have done the "put the food there and punish if they show any interest," but my dog is small so it's not too difficult. It might be a bit advanced if you've got a bigger dog.Last edited by BigRangs; 09-10-2020 at 02:12 PM.

identical.
But maybe. Animal control found them. Said the adult dogs nearby in the abandoned house looked like a yellow lab and german shepherd. Obvi something else is mixed in, or those aren't the parents (not putting $ to figure out spec breed), but being just over a year, and they're not even 50 lbs.
