Let's chase new totals for the end of 2020!

    Following this recent thread: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...post1615896661

Let's see how seriously we can train until the end of 2020, and see who makes the most improvement. Show everyone you're the biggest dog on the block while also enjoying some dedicated improvement in your own training.

This is a big 3 + strict curl virtual competition. Complete a lift, log it and post a vid in this thread. Videos from a good angle of all lifts are required to be officially counted in the final tally. Weekly posts are encouraged to keep you and everyone on track.

Final numbers will be counted after Dec. 31. Deadline for all lifts and vids is midnight local time on December 31.

We'll use IPF GL points to rank the lifters. Prize is reputation points from everyone involved and 'mirin, plus your own new PRs.
    http://weighttraining.nz/ipf_calculator.php age-adjusted
    https://www.ipfpointscalculator.com/

    Lifts are:
--Low bar or high bar squat to proper IPF depth.
--Deadlift sumo or conventional. Straps allowed?
--Bench press with a pause, where the bar is clearly motionless before pressing back up.
    --Strict barbell curl.

Suggestions and ideas are welcome before we finalize the other details. Do we settle disputed lifts by group vote / consensus? Is there a cutoff date for entry? Etc.

Will not win but need motivation, was hoping someone would follow through with this idea

Edit: presume I don't need to film anything until December for final count yes?

    Welcome

No need until 31 Dec but it could be helpful to check camera angle, form, etc

Here's a hilarious attempt at finding a way to strict curl in my space xD

I think what I'll have to do actually do is take a bar outside and then I'll easily find something.
Back came away from rack anyway lol.

Just gotta dump a disclaimer here. Due to a lower back injury that has taken a couple of years to heal I may not risk deadlifting heavy (even for this) so my big 3 may be more like a big 2 or big 1 depending on how my back holds up in squats

Curl attempt but don't think it was entirely strict all the way through: 46.5kg/102lb

Pretty sure this one was strict: 44kg/97lb

Hmm I would have thought due to natural curve, upper back and arse probably need to be keep contact?

Yeah tried that but seemed to just try and dump an image. I'll give it one more shot

"The Rules of the Strict Curl
Your upper back and butt must stay in contact with the wall on the way up and on the way down. Taking a wider stance slightly decreases the chance of your butt moving off.
The heels have to be 12 inches from the wall or less.
Your head, upper arms, and wrists can move as much as you want."

Okay so there's some leway. I need an actual wall to try haha

Hope all of you Englishmen don't mind my use of pounds instead of kilograms.

I have a suggestion: in addition to making sure people are squatting to depth, let's make sure on the bench press that the bar touches the chest and then rises to a full extension of the arms. I tend to see a lot of partial reps that look complete because the final third of the lift is skipped.

If you guys want to use straps I'm personally fine with that but I never use them and will be pulling raw.
    Bench: 340
    Squat: 405
    Deadlift: 505

    Likewise on straps

It's probably simplest with the usual powerlifting rules for most stuff.

Odd, I'm so used to seeing partial reps where the bottom 1/3 is skipped (bench, squats, pullups and dips )

I'm American actually but I live in a kilo country. kg * 2.205 = lb

Good suggestions in bench. Start with elbows fully locked, press after a complete pause with bar touching the chest, rack after elbows are fully locked again.

My thing with straps is I lift in my living room with tile under my mats. If I drop a DL then I risk cracking the tile and having to pay the landlord for the damage.

Can you get some sheets of OSB (oriented strand board) from a lumberyard. Here in the states they are 4' x 8' x 7/16" thick. They cost about $20. That would sort of spread out the impact.

Maybe, I'd have to go looking for them. Only plywood I've seen is 1/4" thick. Here they build houses of brick & stucco (in some cases bamboo & ancient trees) rather than lumber & sheetrock. My bumper plates spread out the shock but I'm still very careful. I plan a deadlift platform someday, next investment is more plates.

    I'm in!!!!!

I've been busy doing silly exercises but I'm sure there is carry over somewhere... erm... lol

Should we establish standards for how we record each specific lift?

    For example:
Bicep Curl - recorded from side, hip height

Finally, the Deadlift straps, I'm fine either way. I would prefer straps allowed, but I also have no shame (see video above for reference to no shame).

    I'm already getting HYPED!!!

Yeah standards is a good idea. Hopefully people will post more vids so others can comment if it's a good angle or bad angle, comment on form, etc.

Anyone got any comments on my curl vid? I'm gonna be slightly restricted on EXACT angles, heights etc because its really gonna rely on where I can prop my phone up!

Arms should have been fully extended at the bottom before the rep.. Only a few degrees more needed.
I think. 'flex Tricep' to make sure 😁

Nice rep tho! Fully controlled and not tossed after rep like most do!

    Angle & video was fine.

    Heh....
I did that once on the self same technogym leg ext machine 😂

Its actually a LOT better than people think just looking at it. I thought it was bs too so, I sarcastically jumped in and did a few reps..

If you're feet are planted right it's actually a good motion. Stack was too light for me tho. 😔

Also have zero chance of winning this. I have no idea if I do my lifts to competition standards either. I'll give it a shot anyway. Will be working on improving on my personal bests. More incentive is always good.

So is the winner the person with the highest rating at the end, or is it based upon biggest improvement? I'd assume the former since there's no request for starting numbers.

Regardless, since my own goal will be to improve my max's, here where they are currently:
    Bodyweight - 168 pounds
    Squat - 210 pounds
    Bench - 160 pounds
    Deadlift - 350 pounds
Strict Curl - 75 pounds (literally just tried this for the first time ever. Maybe could've squeezed out another 5 pounds, but that's about it.)
    Total = 795

Age Adjusted Wilks Score - 245.8
Age Adjusted IPF GL Points - 50.4

Awesome thanks for the tip. Arms extended shouldn't be a problem, more of a comfort thing than a lack of ROM. Tbh I get more momentum from extended arms

Will redo maybe carb load a little and see if I can get that 46.5kg strict :P

Good question. Should we change things to go for the biggest individual improvement? That would open it up to motivate more participants to go for their own personal bests. Not everyone cares about the big 3.

We could also include other lifts and measure progress by percent improved or something?

Maybe it's just me, but I actually find that less motivating and fun lol.

Just reduces it to normal training really, without the trial of needing to get to those stronger.
I'll go with the majority though

On a pure competition note. Most improvement hugely biases undertrained or new people to the extent anyone whose already consistently training has already lost
