The Xbox Series S has seemingly been revealed, and while it's still unconfirmed, reports are coming in from a reporter with a solid track record. Furthermore, details of the Xbox next-gen release--including prices and a date--have also reportedly leaked.
Thurrott reporter Brad Sams has unveiled the design below, showing what the Xbox Series S will reportedly look like. Whether or not this is the actual final design remains to be seen, as Microsoft has not officially unveiled the Series S (or even, technically, announced it), but industry insider Daniel Ahmad has backed up the report, saying this is the design we should expect.
It appears to be a lot smaller, and will not feature a disc drive. It could be that the final design is slightly different from this, but it's liable to be at least very close.
As for the price and date, Windows Central is reporting that Microsoft is set to hold a press conference soon formally announcing the Series S, as well as these details. The site reports that both the Series S and Series X will launch on November 20; the series S will cost $299 USD, and the Series X will cost $499 USD.
The piece also reports that the consoles will be available through Xbox's All Access subscription service, with the Series S being set at $25 USD a month and the Series X at $35 USD a month. Phil Spencer has previously said that All Access is "critical" to their next-gen strategy.

This is true. I don't see $300 being that major of a pull. I mean chit, what at the specs? Does someone just say I'll get a PS4 if they are that poverty? Although that All Access subcription service will help here, they need to get XCloud and GamePass fully functionally so someone can just download the GamePass app to their TV and connect a controller. That's the only way I really see MS picking up steam with their current piss poor software library.

Release is supposed to be 2 months away and Microsoft still hasn't confirmed pricing for their new console. Neither company has. Who is running this chit show??

I'm not buying the 18000th sub version of a console at near release price at the end of its frigging life cycle. Lick. My. Balls.
$499 series x is great news, however. Some outlets are saying $599 however and that is making things dicey. AMD will likely have a card out that can make PCs on par value wise and even Nvidia will have something close.
With the RTX3070 outperforming the 2080ti, I don't think consoles are going to sell as many as originally thought. Team green is full of outright bastards that will take whatever they can, whenever they can.Boycott foodservice industry crew

To the forum enthusiasts this is true. But most consumers only care about price not power. Steam released their new hardware analystic survey and guess what the #1 card is? A GTX 1060 or lower. Survey shows basically no one is playing with a RTX card. Vast majority are running a quad core cpu and relatively no one has a cpu greater than 6 core. As far as resolution, the vast majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p. Only 2% playing at 4k.
The Series S will be a smash hit. The minority that cares about power and gaming at 4k will get a $500 console or next gen gpu.

I don't care what anyone says, $500 (or $300 lol) to run next gen games is absolutely amazing. NVIDIA launched new RTX 30 high end GPUs for the PC to put us further ahead of the consoles. Intel and AMD both currently have CPU offerings to do the same. It's just gonna cost us like $2k to obtain 2x-3x the performance. So ratio wise the Xbox Series X makes total sense, and if the PS5 is similarly priced, the same can be said for that console.
In May 2013, the GTX 780 was released, giving 4 Teraflops of performance, for $650. The more reasonably priced GTX 770 was also released, giving 3.2 Teraflops of performance, for $350. November 2013 the Xbox One was released with 1.31 Teraflops of performance, for $500, along with PS4 at 1.84 Teraflops for $400.
Times have changed compared to that generation. Now the XSX will have 12 Teraflops for $500 (allegedly), PS5 will have 10.8 Teraflops for $?? (likely $500). And it's competing with NVIDIA's RTX 3070 which is 20 Teraflops for $500. Or the RTX 3080 which is 29.7 Teraflops for $700.
I understand Teraflops doesn't enable an apples-to-apples comparison for gaming performance, especially given that we're looking at an NVIDIA architecture component vs AMD component. But just thought it'd be neat to see the stats above, compared to 2013 PS4/Xbone launch, versus what we're dealing with now. Graphics cards were already a step ahead of the consoles when they launched in 2013, and that's the case again today. Granted a $500 console is way better of a deal than a $500 GPU because you're not even factoring in costs of the CPU/Cooler/RAM/Storage/PSU/Case/Motherboard, which would likely boost the cost above $1,000.

I think it's fairly priced for that piece of hardware. If it performs better than the OneX as I've seen reported thats a great buy. I'm playing Gears 5 on the OneX right now and it looks and runs amazing. If they can pull off Gears 5 level of gaming for years to come for that price I think it will move a lot of units. Gamepass is a huge plus for the next gen as well. Got to play through Red Dead, GTA5, Gears 5, ORI, Complete Halo library, battle toads, No mans Sky, Sub-Nautica, Fallout 76, street brawlers and tons of other indie titles that are a lot of fun without spending 80$+ for any of them. I havent felt the need to buy a new game in a long time and love that I have a library of 50+ titles to scan through and play anytime I want. And with all the new developers MS has and all will be available through Gamepass when they come out is huge. It may not be a stellar launch lineup but I think the coming games are going to be great and add a lot of value to Gamepass.
PS5 will be a great console as well but I don't get the argument of Xbox not having decent games when I haven't played nearly the variety and had as much fun playing and the convenience with a console than I do now with Gamepass and Xbox.

It's not a rumor now boyo... It's confirmed
Upto 120 fps and 1440p / 4k upscale / ssd is pretty damn good value for 300 .... But I wonder what's their line of thinking here, 512gb ssd is tiny considering current gen game sizes and even though they say compression will be improved ... By how much? unless we're talking about taking a regular 60-70 gb game and making it 10-20 gb its absoutely moot imo.
But I guess if you can add on storage, then its a great budget option for people who want to get in on next gen. Seems like this model is geared towards kids and casuals. Not to mention gamepass is amazing and with BC, this console will have an amazing number of legacy titles.
Most of us will be buying the series x or the ps5.Sig line can't be a novel

So now on top of a monthly housing payment, car payment, and student loan payment, people can have an Xbox payment. Not to get off-topic but this is a really sad example of the weak economic status of the average consumer. Just terrible.

This is a pretty solid price point, only issue is where Sony's Digital Edition will land. If their Digital Edition lands at $300, then the Series S will be crushed because that system will offer better graphics and chit, for the same cost. However, I don't think Sony would be able to afford that with their given specs. it was rumored that the Series S would be half the cost of the Series X, which worries me because that means the Series X would be $600, which has been proven in the past to be too much money for a console.
Series S - $300
PS5D - $400
PS5 - $500
XSX - $500-$600???
If the Series X costs more than the PS5, then Xbox is doomed. I'm an Xbox-cel and I'm getting the Series X regardless, but there is a little room for concern here. I personally have saved up $2500 in small chunks since the Xbox One release for the new console and a new 4K TV since mine is old.
The All-Access seems like a solid way to boost sales for the average consumer. If you consider that you could realistically pay $30-$40 at Christmas Time to get your kid to play next gen ASAP as opposed to $300-$500, that's a pretty solid plan. Allows parent's and people to stretch their money out to play a lot quicker, and start buying games and controllers quicker to make more money. Now you're telling me you could pay $35 for the first month, have a Series X, and start playing all the GamePass games? That seems like a fukking home run to me for Xbox honestly.
And for the whole Console vs. PC argument, For the average gamer the point is pretty mute. You can either buy a console, buy a game, and be set for 6-7 years. OR you have to buy the casing, the cooling, the motherboard, the graphics card, the this and the that. It's just a lot to take in for the average person to figure out, and there is so much variability that it makes people uncomfortable. A console is just so much easier for the average person to figure out. It's a one time purchase, as opposed to buying different pieces and putting them together. If the reason to get a PC over a console is for graphics and better customability, then I really don't give two chits. People could care less what Warzone looks like when they end up creaming their pants over Fall Guys, which is about as a simple as a game could get. I understand that PC will ALWAYS be better than console gaming because you can constantly upgrade things, but for the best bang for your buck, console will always be better than PC at that.
Edit: Just read how to build a gaming PC below. Even though I'm technically inclined and I built my own PC a while back (12 years ago with someone's help), there's no way the average person could do this, and trust themselves not to break something, or do it wrong.

Xbox Series S: 4 teraflops
4 teraflops in 2020
4 teraflops in 2020

Microsoft promised to support the Xbone for two years after the next generation consoles launched.
Everyone thought that by they'd have games that would make the most of the new hardware at that point.
But then they go ahead and launch a next generation console that is about as powerful as the last generation systems, anyways.
How much of a point is there in having "the most powerful console ever" while also having to support the weakest one until somebody wakes the f*ck up and tells little Timmy to stop blowing all of his money on Fortnite skins and pony up for updated-f*cking-hardware once in a goddamn decade?

Microsoft is still keeping Xbox Live around, so you will continue having to pay them for the privilege of lazy companies continuing to piggyback off the internet you're already paying for to host peer-to-peer online content that is otherwise withheld from you regardless of that full $60/70 price tag that you also paid. And that internet is going to take a pounding with the Xbox Series S and its 512gb SSDNow you can't even save a little by purchasing a full 12 month Gold subscription, but at least you the privilege of being served ads.
On the PC side of things, I simply won't bother because of how Microsoft insists on locking everything down behind their ass backwards UWP and a substandard storefront that is an inconsistent mess varying from user to user.
That pales in comparison to how Microsoft is striving for the "Netflix of Games" with their service, and right now we're in the equivalent to Netflix's golden era before every greedy kunt wanted a piece of the pie for themselves after seeing the success of their model. Even during that high point, movies were still coming in going with licensing deals, just as we see with some games leaving Game Pass, but how can we be sure that Microsoft's service doesn't eventually follow a similar fate to Netflix in which increasing numbers of desirable titles up and vanish, typically being held hostage on a competing platform?
Oh, and the best part there? Netflix knew they would be forced to build up their own exclusive library of content to remain competitive - precisely what everyone and their mothers have been begging for Microsoft to do for well over a decade, and they are still coming up short with only the preliminary groundwork laid out for first party titles that for most part won't be released for some time now.
Microsoft is using their backwards compatible games dating all the way back to the OG Xbox days to bolster the Game Pass library, and realistically, I can imagine that they will follow Netflix's footsteps by further bloating their available titles with an ever-growing number of rubbish. Seriously, it's already starting to look a hell of a lot like Steam with low budget, indie dreck that wouldn't even be worth the bandwidth to watch the trailer.
If I'm buying a console, I don't want a glorified Roku-for-games - I want games that are worth owning. From a purely game-oriented perspective, that is where the Game Pass model falters. Game Pass is terrific for being a sort of digital Redbox rental, but it also points a spotlight towards Microsoft's greatest weakness in terms of lacking enough substance in the one field that should be of the highest priority.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

The PS5 Digital will most likely stand at $399. PS5 CD Drive will be $499.
Just lol @ Xbox Series S 512 GB SDD. That'll fit 5-10 games at most? You're going to have to shell out +$100 for more storage anyways so might as well get the Series X for more power & better graphics"It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience."

honestly I hate the big clunky size of consoles nowadays. the small size means this will be easy to travel with, fit in my living room, and move around in general. you could probably fit this in a backpack or suitcase and take it to hotels or friends houses. or maybe this will have its own traveling case.
plus 120 fps @ 1440P for 299 with 4k upscaling...not bad jeff.

Effective marketing term even though it has no bearing on gaming performance, evident by comments ITT
I'm sure those floating point math calculations really help since everyone mines on consoles.. just lol
I almost feel bad for console-only gamers, the new ones haven't even launched and once again true to fashion they're already behind in power.

The main reason I even get a console is just to be free of hackers in multiplayer FPS games. But with Battlefield not coming out this year, and the Garden Warfare series possibly dead, I don't really have a good reason to get a new console other than having access to backwards compatible games on XBox SX. I'll definitely get one eventually, but considering waiting until next year. I'm leaning Xbox because of the backwards compatibility and because of PS5's rumored SSD size, as well as the ability to expand the storage space of the Xbox.
