Hi guys, I'd like to take up boxing after gyms reopen for self defense and also as a hobby. However I do not want to give up hypertrophy training/bodybuilding-style workouts.
Is it possible to do both?

Naw, getting good at boxing requires a lot of cardio.
I'm not saying it's impossible, maybe if you're on the juice.
If you're really trying to be good at boxing, you'll spend 90% of your time boxing and 10% lifting. If that doesn't like something you want to do, then you might learn a few combination but you're not going to last long in the ring/ mat.

You're going to have to spar to get better. It's the only way to garner better reactions and more experience. Weightlifting is almost counter productive when it comes to boxing, kickboxing and muay thai.

It is ultimately like asking if you can do long distance running + hypertrophy. Of course you can but if you are serious about long distance running it doesn't make much sense.
There is no reason to try to jump up a weight class so you are boxing with people with longer reach before you even start.
Tommy Hearns I always think of as the archetype for not doing this. 6'1" 78 inch reach and won the title at Welterweight. One of the all time great punchers too.

I think strength training can help, but not hypertrophy
it'll probably slow you down not to mention boxing is a lot of cardio and conditioning

Well lifting comes first and foremost, you can’t be good if you are weak.
AFTER you spent a couple years of heavy effective powerlifting and becoming a fully developed human then you can also do other things like practice for a sport.
When you go into the Boxing gym you should already have years of lifting built up.
Then you can parlay that power into technique. Then when you are finally about to compete in the ring you can train cardio for 6-8 weeks to get your cardiovascular system in shape while also maintaining the gains you had as best as you can with lots of protein, amino acids and short but heavy lifts 3x a week.
Don’t worry about all the other stuff, first start a basic powerlifting regiment. Get your body right and strong first.
You can’t do both at the same time but you can do them one first, then the other.A lot of girls say I'm built like a "Tank"
