Yeah, thought I'd put out for reference that Julius Maddox, the current raw bench world record holder, has a ratio of 1.75 putting up 770 pounds at a weight of 440 lbs.

Nobody who's 150 lbs benching 265 for the same ratio and claiming to be at world record status is going to put that in a remotely comparable ballpark.

Yeah I plan a cut too, 5-6 weeks starting in a few weeks. But you've got a really good head start Eli.

Should it be bench only? Big 3 total? Other?
    Weight classes? Allometric scaling?
Start on a specific date or within a certain week?
    Video proof is a requirement.

Thanks. We'll see how that pans out!

Shouldn't we use a Wilke's calculator in addition to the video, and then disqualify unacceptable or cheated form? I would opt for within the week, myself.

Hah, we actually had a thread for this back in the day,me n Ego have references too it in our sigs.
Eventually fell apart cuz life etc

What we did was have one person create a journal in that section to use as a group to place vids and PRs

IPF or Wilks points + just highest number I'd say.
Question is, paused or tng? I'll always lean paused but am open to either.

sure, older lads get a handicap since they have been training longer

joking, if we use Wilks or IPF they have a pre programmed formula for age over 40 (m1) 50 (m2) and so on.
So that'll all be accounted automatically as well

    Under 40 - IPF GL Points: 16.32

    over 40 - IPF GL Points: 16.32, Age-adjusted: 17.2

    over 50 - Age-adjusted: 20.0

    http://weighttraining.nz/ipf_calculator.php

~Demonstration numbers, my 3 lift isn't actually that low thankfully xD

35, training for 20 months now. 6'-2", long ass arms. 235 lbs bulking like crazy.

Tried 1 rep max last night actually and got 275, then failed at 295, so looking like 285 would be a good bet.

Paused, of course. Bar should be held clearly motionless on the chest before pressing. As a group we can referee/vote on borderline lifts.

    So far we've got:
    Eli
    Alex
    Smokinal
    Wolf
    ECG

We can try to get more in, and should decide how to allow late comers, and set a start date/deadline for the first vid.

Is this Big 3 or bench only? I'm fine for either but I'll be training all 3 like any man would.

I have heard that raw strength (if not recovery, endurance, flexibility, etc.) peaks for men in the early 50s.

In fact, most of the herculean lifts I've seen IRL have been from men close to that age.

We could even make things interesting and do more than just the Big 3.

For instance, some kind of vertical pull would be a good thing to add, as bicep and lat strength are somewhat omitted from just bench/squat/DL.

EDIT: But we would need at least five for a nice round number. Votes for a 4th-5th lift?

Just quit making excuses and lift. So many people want to complain about any number of reasons that they are not as strong as they want to be. No one wants to hear it...and it really does not matter.

I used to workout with a guy about 6'2 but he had the biggest wing span I may have ever seen. I think it was like 6'8. It was scarry as hell spotting him for bench because when he was locked out he was 5-6" above any of the safeties on the back of the racks to catch the weight. He literally had to do a 1/4 rep to lower the weight to rack it.

On top of his crazy long arm span, he also benched close grip. Like REAL shoulder width close grip. He said it just felt better. He was not a huge guy either, maybe 220. He was working to get a 405 single. His reps were right there at 315x10.

Dont know if he ever hit it....but he was killed a few years back in a motorcycle crash. Good dude.

So quit bitching and just lift. We ALL have issues we work around. I have a bad shoulder, and bad hip. My shoulder forces me to be very careful with my form on bench (which is why I bench so slowly). My hip forces me to squat close stance (shoulder width) not great for power, but I can still squat mid 500's at 200lbs. I dont bitch that I wish I could squat low bar wide stance for power. I just squat.

Maybe a vertical pull.. Rom would be hard to manage. Maybe till parallel upper arm I guess.

I was thinking OHP but that might overlap with the bench press too much.

Sticking with the Big 3 is fine with me, especially since a vertical pull would target really the only group and motion that is otherwise left out, but pullups won't do given bodyweight discrepancies. I still think the biceps and a major section of the back are kind of left out of this and shouldn't be, but oh well.

Curl? it's a powerlift too technically, just have to judge momentum harshly

Yeah, sounds good to me. While I agree it shouldn't be tier one importance, IMHO that lift is valid and gets insulted too much. We'll maybe have to do them standing against a wall to prevent leaning, and judge elbows staying at the sides, etc.

Sorry guys but I'm not doing OHP. It messes up my lumbar somehow, and in the past it gave me shoulder problems.

I'm going to sit down to pee on this one guys.
I'm just not into chasing numbers. This got me curious though and I put up 225 @168lb, 51yo tonight and stopped there; probably about my max right now.

If I injured myself going for numbers and couldn't train/compete I'd be furious at myself. I train extremely hard but never dip under 6-7 reps; and those sets go on to be drop sets with 12-14 reps total.

Ima bow out to you whippersnappers!
Can understand that especially if you're competing, not worth the risk! Leave it to us crazy kids I've got a lifetime of injuries left to cause and then regret

Regarding curls are we talking strict or is there some powerlifting variation?
Somehow still managing to avoid getting 'too big'
