    To stimulate muscle protein synthesis, it is important to increase the plasma levels of essential amino acids (EAA), especially leucine, by ingesting proteins. Protein hydrolysate ingestion can induce postprandial hyperaminoacidemia; however, it is unclear whether protein hydrolysate is associated with higher levels of aminoacidemia compared with a free amino acid mixture when both are ingested orally. We assessed the effects of whey protein hydrolysate (WPH) ingestion on postprandial aminoacidemia, especially plasma leucine levels, compared to ingestion of a free amino acid mixture. This study was an open-label, randomized, 4 × 4 Latin square design. After 12–15 h of fasting, 11 healthy young men ingested the WPH (3.3, 5.0, or 7.5 g of protein) or the EAA mixture (2.5 g). Blood samples were collected before ingestion and at time points from 10 to 120 min after ingestion, and amino acids, insulin, glucose and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) concentrations in plasma were measured. Even though the EAA mixture and 5.0 g of the WPH contained similar amounts of EAA and leucine, the WPH was associated with significantly higher plasma EAA and leucine levels. These results suggest that the WPH can induce a higher level of aminoacidemia compared with a free amino acid mixture when both are ingested orally.

    It’s all about getting the most out of your supplement. Timing and dosing are all critical but this all depends on you and what you’re trying to accomplish. I’ve been at this for many years and have trained with some great strength coaches and all have told me the same thing, consistency. I try to eat at the same time everyday and take in my supplements at the most beneficial times. If you’re not in it to win it, why do it.

I’ve been at this for many years and have trained with some great strength coaches and all have told me the same thing, consistency. I try to eat at the same time everyday and take in my supplements at the most beneficial times. If you’re not in it to win it, why do it.
    But why would EAA absorb slower than BCAA? From your post earlier You stated eaa absorb slower; which of these amino acids will make the EAA absorb slower than bcaa? L-fenylalanin, L-treonin, L-lysin, L-histidin, L-metionin

    Timing can be important if you look at +- 3-4 hours. Its not important by minutes. If you already have been eating before there are no use for BCAA nor EAA. 15 years ago we never talked about BCAA here, its no magic powder and will have little to no effect on your training.

    2:1:1 is the perfect ratio, and nothing will ever beat BCAAs as a intra cocktail

    I was chatting with a young doctor who was in pretty good shape.

    He said he used to take a lot supplements but was now quite sceptical about them.

    I asked about BCAA's while cutting. He said I should definitely take them while cutting.

    There seems to be a lot of hate for BCAA's. Considering its so cheap it's seems odd that some people are so strident in their views.

    I would have thought Pre-workout was a bigger waste of money as you can make your own for a fraction of the price and at least you know what your getting.

    One of those two is a complete waste of money.

    The other actually does something...yes it costs more to buy a pre than to just take a caffeine pill, but good pres have more than just the caffeine and aren't exactly expensive either.

    It's your money to waste if you want to buy into the marketing on aminos though

    At least the Pre can have ingredients that are efficacious. Free-form aminos will never have a benefit to someone meeting their macros that's healthy. If you're meeting your macro, you're getting more than enough aminos. More != better regardless of how some people will attempt to pervert what science on these things actually says.

    Just because they went to school and/or seem to be "in pretty good shape" doesn't mean they know what they are talking about. Authority fallacy is strong.

    According to Tanzer, both BCAA and EAA supplements can support muscle growth and recovery from training.
    However, BCAAs are better suited for people who meet their total daily protein needs, while EAAs are best for those who typically fall short.
