Why do people say Audi is fun to drive?

You can't do burnouts and you can't power slide or drift, BMW and Mercedes has always had Audi beat in fun factor if you ask me. You'd have to be near curvy roads to have any type of fun.

Audi is basically only good for straight line driving or maybe in the snow if you live in snowy areas.

Nowadays EVERY car is an appliance not truly a car... That goes for all manufacturers. They have a checklist of features and options that all need to be ticked.. That's it, now choose the shape that speaks to you... That's a modern day car for you. What you just mentioned are mundane VW Jettas and Passats really. Far too many nannies controlling what you do and how you do it.

    Look at a B5 S4 vs a modern S4.... Or an E39/E46 M3 vs a modern M3.. Yuk!

What does an Audi or other manufacturer have that Kia doesn't offer? For the most part, nothing.

I've completely tapped out of 95% of car brands except for a select few models... At hertz last year I "upgraded" into a 5 series.. "nice" I thought to myself... As soon as I heard the fukking thing crank and start I knew I got conned... I paid an upgrade for a 4 Cylinder 5 SERIES BMW... WTF? I went right back to the counter and took the best go to rental car.. Yukon XL or Escalade.

Honestly, I'm looking at dropping around $50k on a 2017/18 Mustang here in Australia (seems to be the going rate through a dealer), then getting a local tuner to dump a Roush supercharger into it with the exhaust and tuning mods to get it up over 600HP. That'll cash out at total a bit less than a new mid range luxury marque and you can actually have some fun in it.

Either that, or find a really good condition old school muscle car body and rebuild the thing with a big ass Chevy crate engine.

Had and R8 and LOVED every minute of it.

My buddy has an RS7 which just got done with some mods and is putting down 750 to the wheels. I have not driven it yet, but my guess is that is "fun".

So, my audi experiences are pretty good!

BMW and Mercedes are more maintstream than ever. Look at the garbage they produce for the most part. The only BMW I can see myself in today is an M5 or an 8 series. The only Benz I can see myself in is a G wagon which is a far stretch, and/or an E63 AMG. They have cool tech in their X5's and X7's, but meh.. I'd rather have an Escalade. They are the go to 30k millionaire's car. Nothing special, nothing that tingles and touches human sensory.

An S class mercedes in the late 80's/early 90's were on Bently/RR levels at the time. An S class is nowhere close to what it used to be in terms of quality and prestige. Those haydays for BMW/Mercedes are long gone. They're more corporate now.

people have always said stuff like this though.. I remember in the e92 hayday people would compare it to the “fun factor” of an e36/e46 and say it wasn’t close and bmw was losing its way... ofc we look back on statements like that now and think it’s ridiculous because the v8 e92 was fuking awesome.

Truth is the current f90 m5 has all other previous gens beat and it’s not even close. Same with the m4 vs the older m3s... only thing the older models have other these are: styling and the NA sound imo, but those are subjective.. even though I don’t know anybody who thinks the e46 doesn’t look better than the F82 m4 (don’t get me started on the upcoming m4).

I will also say the older gens on bmw’s interiors felt more “solid” and well built. Todays german cars seem to focus on being on the edge of technology and cramming in as much as possible whereas back in the day more focus was put into something like making the buttons feel more rigid lol.

I had a co worker who owned a stock one and he was convinced it was some kind of supercar killer, never really understood the deal with that car. F80, sure.

Well you certainly reiterated pretty much what I said.. Because it's the truth. A modern BMW feels like a Kia/Hyundai or any other generic mass produced people mover but with better handling. Even so, BMW steering feel is not what it used to be.

The E92 was cool but not all that great. E39 and E46 are still the top M3's produced. Nowadays they sound like ass, like really bad. Best way I can describe it is a tinny, raspy, ricer sound. Like they're trying so hard to emulate an NA sound. They gotta toss that out the window. The truth is, BMW is just lacking. They no longer appeal to enthusiasts, but mainly the masses who just cared about a badge... They're all like this now. Maserati is by far the WORST. I sort of feel bad for Ghibli drivers, but at the same time I laugh at their ignorance. Do they know they're driving a Chrysler 300 badged as a Maserati? That car is full of Mopar parts bin products.. Nearly every "prestigious" brand is junk with a badge slapped on it..

    Consumers gonna consume.

after driving the m5/m8 at the m track day was i was pretty disappointed with the gearbox. upshifting is kinda fast, not DCT fast, but not slow enough to make a huge difference. however fun factor is like non existent... and no forward jump when you shift up like in a DCT. downshifting takes centuries. hop in an m2/m4 right after and realize how much better the DCT is for M cars. quite obvious BMW is softening the brand (no DCT in the next m4 etc). sure the newer cars are faster but theyre lacking the fun factor that Ms should have.

Nicer interior, that's about it, I faced this dilemma a year ago, Kia Stinger vs Audi S5, I went with the Kia and I've been very happy, and there's even a Stinger that's AWD but allows you to turn off the front wheels in order to drift or powerslide. That said, I am unhappy about these cars only being automatics, and have been debating going to an M3 manual, though I would prefer AWD vs RWD.

Some people would even argue that an AWD car hugging a turn is more fun than a car losing its grip on the road.

    I don't know about that.

I took my RS3 up to tail of the dragon. When I was done with it I was totally worn out. It was an absolute workout trying to get it to maintain any speed through the corners. Audi's, especially my RS3, are some of the worst handling cars in the world with regards to their AWD systems. In the RS3's case the engine is so far out front of the front axle you just can't make it do anything fun. The best way I describe it to people is take a 24 pack of water next time you are in the grocery store and hang it 12 inches over the front of front wheels and try and turn. Then take it and slide it to the back just infront of the rear wheels. Cars behave in the same manner.

They are great cars to drag race with and make fast in a straight line.... just don't try and turn with them.

Also the "dynamic" steering would get real stiff in dynamic mode but you still got 0 feedback from the road itself.

Agreed Audi steering is the worst. We have had a couple Porsches and a couple Audis. Night and day. Its completely insulated from the road.

Hmm didn’t know that about the zf gearbox. I’ve never tracked either car so I can’t speak as to the difference in shifting times. A lot of German sports cars across all brands are moving away from dual clutch and going to zf’s though.

New m4 will also have a manual option, so there’s that.

That's because the RS3 is FWD with a Haldex differential in the back. It's not real AWD.

But it is also heavily front biased in weight distribution. Like he said.

Putting aside the fact that drifting and burnouts are childish, I don't understand why people love Audi either.

Burnouts are pretty pointless, but drifting and power sliding definitely aren't childish. They take a lot of skill and a mishap can mean a destroyed car.

I love my Audi S3 as it's a quick and zippy DD that performs phenomenally in the rain and snow. I used to own an E90 ZCP M3 and loved the fuk out of it, but the low torque was embarrassing when accelerating off a stop light. My dad had a 2012 CLS63 AMG and 2014 Nissan GTR, now those cars were fun.

Brah if you take anything other than a Miata or Fiesta to the Tail of the Dragon, it's going to be a workout if you go over 20mph.

I took my 04 E55 AMG to Tail of The Dragon this past weekend and THAT was a workout lol
