I started 2 years ago at 39. Lost all my fat (that’s where my profile pic is from, pre-gainz post-deficit), and since have added some appreciable muscle. Plan is to compete in a couple more years, maybe by the time I’m 45, and aside from a year or two half-assing it in the gym at university, I’ve never lifted before.
You’ll be amazed at what happens if you dedicate yourself to it.My home gym: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=175136471&p=1623181551&viewfull=1#post1623181551

Charles died at the age of 96. I guess that makes him a failure.
Seriously though, he was going strong up to the point that his heart gave out. He even had a new girlfriend. No slow decline into senility for him. If you gotta go, I'd much rather do it the way he did.“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

I lifted a lot late teens / early 20's. I didn't start up again until 37-ish.
For the most part if you're doing all the right things (program, nutrition, etc), there is an imperceptible difference in gains. I just found I get aches and pains more often. Otherwise it's the same. I grew like a weed once I started back up again, both in size and strength.
Purely anecdotal though. Everyone ages differently. Other than some greys starting to show up in my hair, I could pass for late 20's / early 30's pretty easily. Other people my age that I know look much older. *shrug*
