    Saving up for a 911 Carrera S...been a dream car since a kid...worth it?

Don’t buy one if you’re planning to baby it and use it as a garage ornament. It’s a Porsche. It’s meant to be driven.

Will still drive it, but I’m not dailying it.

Also coworkers would be jelly AF wouldn’t be taking it to work ever.

Carerra S most likely as I’m reading they hold their value the best, plus they have the bigger brakes.

When they ask what model, means he was asking what series.

    996, 997, 991?

I had a 69 911T. Wish I still did. 911 prices are insane compared to what they were 10-15 years ago.

How am I am a poseur if I have no interest in showing the car to anybody? I want to own it for me alone. I will drive it when I want to drive it and want to enjoy having a low mileage 911. I have other MB's and Audi's to beat on daily. No more than 5k miles a year on the 911.

You're doing it wrong, that's why. Take this positively...

You want a Carrera S because "bigger brakes". That's it? They don't hold value best. GT Porsches do, followed by Targas, TT/TTS, and 4S. All depending on mileage and certain key options. There are certain options and colors that will obliterate resale.

Buying a brand new Carrera is a big mistake financially. You're going to get wrecked. If you can take down the loss, go for it. Always buy slightly used or CPO. Even the richest of the rich don't like to piss away money. Porsche dealerships are greedy pigs, especially Porsche Chandler and Porsche North Scottsdale. Douche of North Scottsdale is what they should call themselves... If you buy new, shoot for 8-10% off MSRP. They'll tell you they don't negotiate. Move along. I bought mine from Huntsville Porsche Alabama and had it shipped to my house in AZ. Porsche Chandler is the place to go for service.

Who the FUK buys a brand new Carrera and leaves it parked? There goes your warranty! It's not a GT3 or an uber rare variant. You're buying the most daily friendly 911 ever built. Enthusiasts hardly even consider the new car to be a 911, more like a Panamera Coupe. At least trade in or give up the other cars... You're underestimating just how soft and daily friendly these machines have become. These cars, even the old ones are extremely reliable and they're meant to be driven. Hard. It's not a phony BMW or Mercedes, or rather the 992 is at this point a glorified Audi/VW.

Take it from me, if you're around people who are going to be hating and jelly because of your Porsche. You're gonna be in for a lot of headaches. I brought mine to work a few times and got a lot of backlash. It was unreal how much I got criticized behind my back and to my face.

"Poseur" comes from not knowing what you want, but you just want the 911 because 911. It's been your "dream car since I was a kid" but you want the newest one? How? Isn't there a certain model you fell in love with? Have you driven or lived with one? Go on Turo and rent 1 or 2 or 3. Try em out.. Carmax allows hassle free test drives. Scope one out locally.

My advice: stick with a 991 with an extended warranty. They're cheap and the best bang for your buck.

There are a bunch of 996s floating around here that are starting to get pretty cheap. Like a 2001 Carerra with 50k miles, 6spd, and IMS paperwork for $30k. Thats got to be hitting bottom on depreciation.

Ive been watching for a price bottom-out after all the government cheques dry up next month, see if I can pick one up to throw around for a summer.

Fair comments for the most part, but I am not your typical owner.
    1) I do all my own maintenance, so I dgaf about the warranty, engines, transmisisons you name it...on my list is a 2-post lift as looks it'll be a must-have for the boxer engine.

    2) Over the years I've become very picky about the "type" of car I want. The 911 checks all the boxes I want from a sportscar. Its not just "bigger brakes", its the engine, PDK, interior quality, styling and "low key" feel. I enjoy the fact you can drive a $150,000 and nobody turns their head like they would a Ferrari or Lambo. I dont want to stand out and I feel Porsche fits my style after driving my Audi for a few years now and enjoy the VAG feel (no pun).

    3) When I talk about value, I'm saying compared to the base Carerra (which TBH has enough power for me, but I miss out on some other options that I wanted which only the S offers)

    4) I keep my cars, I don't trade in/up every few years. Had my first car for 12 years, current at 7-years and 2-years (2 cars for me + wifes). This 911 will likely be the nicest car I ever own, or want to own, and I plan to keep it 20-years which is why I don't want to daily it.

Yeah I feel you for the backlash, but its because I can afford nicer cars since I do my own maintenance, that's my biggest advantage and why I've ALWAYS had nicer cars that my coworkers. Only once people get to know me know that I am humble and hardworking, not a spoiled show-off. Cars are my hobby and passion, I don't spend money elsewhere really. I will consider a low mileage CPO as well too, I should have said that, but I'd have to wait for the right packages to show up, which I can be patient for and look across the US.

Plan to get out to the Porsche experience in LA once COVID is over so I can get some time on the track with a 992.

I identify as a GT2RS owner. Does that count?

Get a 991.2 GT3 touring package. It will retain its value the best, handle the best, sound the best, look the best all for the same price you'd pay a 992 S. It's better in literally ever aspect

I've been looking for a while now.

My issue is I know the PDK is faster by a decent margin. I want a manual though, I want to actually drive the car.

Would I be an idiot to get a 911 with a manual?

Theres no reason to buy a sportscar and not drive it.

If you are planning on using it as your "weekend" car and driving around a beater as a "daily" then you just shouldnt buy a sports car.

Your beater would also cost money to drive and maintain. Might as well just use that money towards dailying your sports car.

Also, if you have a nice sports car, you arent gonna want to drive around a beatup civic as a daily. You would atleast want a nice benz or something.

The entire idea of having a beater is stupid, just drive the sports car every day.

Why would I want to drive a sports car every day when I have a luxury SUV that I can auto-pilot around town or in traffic as my DD?

If I'm driving a manual sports car, I sure as hell don't want to waste my time sitting in traffic it in it.

I've driven a 997 with manual and it's nice af, would be the way I'd go if I was in the market for one although the 991 gen has a really nice PDK box and I've been driving only manuals since I was 16 so might want a change in pace for a bit

Would shoot for a 997 turbo before prices start soaring on those. I already see them creeping up.
