After plans for the annual memorial in light for 9/11 were scuttled by the 9/11 Museum and Memorial, the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) stepped up, just as they did 19 years ago, for the people of New York City.
President of the SBA, Ed Mullins, shared the news that the organization of 13,000 NYC sergeants would host a "Tribute in Light" to replace the one the city refuses to hold.
Mullins said that "Mayor Bill de Blasio has once again failed to represent the people of this city with his inability to provide a viable alternative this sacred annual event."
"He allowed mass protests and riots in the city with no concerns whatsoever about the pandemic. he has shown time and again that he has no allegiance to crime victims in this city, whether they are killed in street encounters or by terrorists."
The "Tribute in Light" has been a way for the city to collectively grieve for those lost on September 11, 2001, when planes crashed into the twin towers, as the two World Trade Centre towers were known, collapsing both and killing everyone aboard both planes.
"The mayor won't find a way to honor these heroes," Mullins said, "but the SBA will pay tribute to all of the fallen victims by arranging for a 'Tribute in Light.' A twin beam of light will shine on the evening of 9/11. The men and women of the Sergeants Benevolent Association will make sure of that."
In closing, Mullins noted that the "the mayor might have a short and selective memory, but the members of the NYPD will NEVER FORGET the sacrifice of every person who lost their life that fateful day."
On that blue-skied, September Tuesday in 2001, it was the essential workers of New York, police, fire and rescue, and EMTs that rushed to the site of the destruction to do what they could do to save New Yorkers.
City councilmember Joe Borelli is seeking support to help make this plan a reality. They have asked President Donald Trump, a New Yorker himself, to assist in this cause to make sure the memorial that has graced the city every year on the anniversary of the terror attacks still shines brightly.
Bill de Blasio has proposed massive cuts to the NYPD, as part of his support for BLM and the defund the police initiative.

It's utterly ridiculous that Deblasio is shutting this down to begin with when he had no problem allowing riots and looting and a huge memorial service for a felon that overdosed on fetanyl.

De Blasio shutting it down was political. He can claim it is because of COVID, but he also lied when he said that people were leaving NYC because of COVID instead of the truth, which is that people are leaving because of the extreme violence, loss of culture and extreme high taxes and cost of living. Fair counter. He has to be called out.

This should make everyone hate DeBlasio even more:
Remember when he pulled that political stunt by painting BLM in front of Trump Tower? His office now admits that they skipped the permitting process. Several roads were closed, and at least 12 officers were pulled from their duties to run security during the stunt. It cost the city 100s of 1000s in tax funds. All so DeBlasio could be on camera pandering to BLM. This was all during the pandemic. Then a few weeks later, he decides to shut down the 9/11 memorial, also because pandemic.
Honestly he is the perfect American leftist. Admitted communist. Keen on meaningless political stunts. Hates LEO. Roll his eyes at things like 9/11 memorial.***Alabama Crimson Tide***
