Neither. Just eat to appetite focusing on mostly whole foods like meat, eggs, fruit, veg, grains, beans etc. You will easily gain muscle and probably displace any puppy fat naturally doing that.

Been already lifting for an year...SL5x5, PPL and now PHUL. Was thinking of cutting to get rid of the love handles and switching to 5/3/1 BBB.

Don't cut. You should not deny a growing body calories and nutrients. I reiterate what I said above.

Well I'm gonna say cutting is fine, as long as you can maintain the heavy lift and eat enough protein, your muscle will not be lost.
After reaching 12% body fat, which you can count "six packs" or able to do 10 reps of pull up with ease. Then very slowly start a clean bulk.

No No No. Nobody who is 15 years old should be cutting (except obese - and only under direct supervision of an MD).
All it takes is consistency, effort, proper nutrition, good programming, and TIME.

Don't be upset with the results you didn't get from the work you did not do.

    Not sure of your goals.

Don't see any reason a 5 ft 11 in and 148 lbs teenage male would need to cut. You are skin and bones. Cutting would make you look terrible. If anything I'd think you'd want to add something to those lifts, which is going to require you to eat more food.

My mistake, i thought he is an adult. Yes, don't cut while still at growing age.

Do not cut. Eat lots of healthy food and train often.

Gain the mass slow and steady!

No need to cut just focus on progressing on your lifts and eating a balanced diet. Try to gain weight gradually if you are concerned with gaining "clean body weight." Slowly you will add strength and muscle mass will follow.

220 lbsx3 deadlift, 110 lbsx3 bench, 143 lbsx3 squat after a whole year of lifting is not a lot my g. Moreover, (no offense) I cannot see any muscle mass. Cutting would make you look absolutely horrible. Focus on your training before you cut. 148 lbs for 5' 11" male is small af. I weigh more than that and I'm 4 inches shorter.
Being short sucks but you gotta deal with it.
