I read through the study and there are a lot of "mights" and "possibles" involved and seems to be both a smear report as well as something fear mongers can point at. The actual reported numbers I have seen have put the actual cases at somewhere around 250.

I am sure this will be latched onto for the wrong reasons by both sides of the argument - one to show how dangerous these types of events can be and one to point out how crazy and fear mongering the other side is. Bottom line, risky behavior by people at the rally almost certainly caused more spread, and i guess it is possible that the numbers approach what the models suggest. No large gathering is "safe", however they are of varying levels of "dangerous", and that comes down primarily to how the individuals in the group act.

NO, the black man at the CDC himself said this virus affects Blacks more than anyone.

Blacks are a minority at those ralleys.

I don’t think anyone is saying protests aren't a risk. But if it is the case protests aren’t the same spreader as this rally it would fit the theory of this model. In difference to those political protests, this rally is characterized by long distance traveling and by thousands of long indoor activities in crowded areas without masking or much social distancing in restaurants, hotels, bars, etc..

HA HA you are a freaking riot home fry!!!!!!

I like how you just pull this stuff out your bung hole, much like when CDC said this virus affects African Americans MORE than whitey. Now when the they are out in the streets shouting with masks under their chin, there is no spike.

Are you not capable of thinking between absolutes? By this need to create a Vs. Equation... the world is not black or white...issues are complicated.

The folks that want to gather in large groups prioritize their issue over public health. That is the bottom line... doesn't matter if it's freedom or justice or guns or lizard people. It’s tough to say one gathering is ok and another is not if your goal is to get out of this pandemic.

I do think we've seen evidence that the protests didn't cause some major outbreak that wasn't already there, but the way some circles have gone out of their way to dodge the issue and qualify it is ridiculous.

But I think it is safe to believe that a 140 square mile city of 600,000 seeing less than 1% of its population walk out of their homes for a couple hours a day to protest will have a different outcome than having a 6 square mile town with 6,000 people hosting 460,000 bikers from all over the U.S. hanging out at hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, bars and concerts for a week or more.

The MSM may think the riot-protests are a risk, but they never mention it. They do however mention biker rallies and GOP rallies. Selective reporting to fit their ideology and agenda.

Agreed. The only solution to widespread media bias is an educated market capable of critical thought.

Our media manufactures consent like it is a consumer good, until the market dries up for it they are going to continue to do so.

Have you ever been to the Sturgis rally? I have and if you think 460,000 people are all crowded into downtown Sturgis and everybody is on top of each other then you are nuts. Its spread out all over the area with people in Lead, Deadwood, Keystone, Spearfish, etc. Most of the events are outdoors and even the large bars are mostly outdoor venues.

No I have not. But I have been in Daytona during Bike Week a few times. It’s sweaty people drinking, screwing, hugging, singing and dancing. Much like when I was at the Munich beer festival, which was cancelled at the cost of billions of lost revenue. Which in my opinion was the right decision and what Sturgis should have also done. But it does appear that the city cancelled all the “town” events and people were probably coming even if they did officially cancel the event.

I have been to Daytona bike week a number of times and its a vast difference from Sturgis.
And even less comparison with Oktoberfest, was there 2 years ago and have never been around so many people in such a small area.

One of my HS buddies and his wife (also a HS friend of mine) have one of the outdoor bars. That's all they do. Open up for the rally and take the rest of the year off.

If only they'd listened to the experts and taken a knee and peacefully burned a Wendy's while they had their KKK motorcycle Hate Rally then millions of deaths could have been avoided.
