Chicago Democrat calls to abolish history classes and history books because it leads to 'White Privilege' and 'racist society'

Chicago Rep. La Shawn Ford, a Democrat, is calling for the abolition of history classes and the removal of “current history books” because history, he says, causes White Privilege and racism.

Speaking with local leaders in Evanston, Chicago last week, the Democratic representative proposed the plan to develop a more “inclusive” curriculum—one that doesn’t lead to White Privilege—and abolish all current history books.

“Today, I’m calling for the abolishment of history classes in Illinois. We’re concerned that current school history teachings lead to White Privilege and a racist society,” Ford said.

Ford unveiled his house bill to the State of Illinois 101st General Assembly to amend the state’s school code, which mainly sees the addition of new commemorative holidays—“Humanitarian Day,” “Victims of Violence Wholly Day,” and “Dream Day”—and “provides that the teaching of the history of the United States shall include the study of the American civil rights renaissance, that period of time from 1954 to 1965 called the Movement.”

Ford introduced the bill with Democrat co-sponsors Sonya Harper, Joyce Mason, Anne Stava-Murray, Latoya Greenwood, Maurice West, Debbie Meyers-Martin, and Karina Villa.

The Democrat doesn’t simply want the state’s board of education to end teaching history, but for local districts to “take immediate action by removing the current history books and curriculum practices that unfairly communicate our history until a suitable alternative is developed.”
