First of all HCQ isn't the main inhibitor it's the zinc, second of all.. Zelenko had 2200 patients.. 2198 lived.. you don't need a study to tell you 99.98% success rate = effective treatment.

You need to control for non users and you need to track side effects as well to have a legit scientific conclusion. As far as I'm aware the original promise has shown HCQ is not helpful in the treatment of COVID.

The goal is to find an effective treatment regimen with the least amount of side effects. There are currently many being trialed. Nothing conclusive has been determined at this point. I would currently opt against HCQ because of the side effect risk and controls haven't looked promising.

I believe RCT's are the gold standard, however a lot of people just simply dismiss studies which aren't RCT's including Fauci himself. However, am not aware of any RCT's done on masks (might be wrong) as well.

There are some risks of heart and kidney problems among others. It’s not accurate to say it’s one of the safest or one of the most dangerous. Most drugs have side effects. Prescribers will put up with them if there is a known benefit to the use of the drug. The side effects are less of a risk if they outweigh the benefit in their application for say lupus.
