So maybe i'll give the full scoop on how bad this situation is in another thread, but in summary I'm living at home as a caretaker with my mom and stepdad. My stepdad is probably somewhere on the spectrum and works from home doing IT. Well he does IT so I guess it's redundant to say he's on the spectrum, but he has basically no communication skills and my mom thought it'd be a good idea to marry him.
So now we're up **** creek with pancreatic cancer (stage 2) doing chemo, and they are quarelling now over nonsense and he won't communicate like a human being, over which I have tried my best to mediate and tone down, but it's now at the point where I said I'm done dealing with your relationship problems and other people have to get involved or you get counseling or whatever.
Anyway he keeps bringing up divorce. Honestly I'd be so happy if he were out of the picture, but she's on his insurance. Does anyone know how this might look with the insurance if that happened? Without him she would certainly qualify for medicaid.
My ONLY concern is her being without insurance

Talk to her current doctor/hospital right now and find out what kinds of alternative insurance they accept and if they accept medicaid/medicare. If they do, then at least she has that in her back pocket. Otherwise, start contacting other nearby hospitals/doctors to find out which specialist take medicaid and then go from there.

She’ll get disability, Medicare
“A person who has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer will automatically qualify for Social Security disability benefits, since the SSA has determined that Pancreatic Cancer is one of the illnesses that meet disability standards. The result is that your disability case can be expedited, which means that the approval process can be completed in weeks, not years. If all of the correct documents are present and in order, you can expect your case to be completed in less than a month.”
But she can also get Medicare quicklySuperHercules crew

Yea, i got confrontational with him a couple times for upsetting her, but i quickly realized that approach goes absolutely nowhere fast. I'm glad i didn't, cause i usually take that neanderthal approach. It's not what civilized people do
Goodluck OP and good job being there for mother.

Horrible news, especially where it's located but well done not getting physical with him. That definitely won't help. Medical costs and insurance issues are another sad hardship cancer suffers have to endure. All you can do is ask doctors for your options, either way where I live you're going to end up paying large amounts regardless of how much you get back from insurance. We have a sort of medicaid system here too, but it's not that good especially for something serious as cancer.

well if you have no money and run up a medical bill in Cali and you write up/fill out the paper work for medical debt forgiveness programs. My sisters husband got a rare cancer with no health insurance and it takes you out in 2 months. He spent that time in the icu and it was over half a million and they forgave everything when it showed she had no money at the time of the death because it took four years to settle the trust
