Both were in publicly known, publicly discussed, even in the news, proven storage there prior to the blast.

This might have been mentioned earlier, I haven't read all the other posts, but saw this video of Israel's Prime Minister a few years ago complaining while at the UN about Iranian guided missiles being stored in this area of Beirut.

Judging by the simplified graphs the president uses while attempting to defend a position I think it's possible that his generals also communicate information in the simplest of terms. I imagine they compared the explosion to a bomb to illustrate the magnitude and severity and our super stable genius heard all that he needed to hear, then went with it.

If you think about it, those ~70 were probably outside the close perimeter and were not buried. Some killed by the shock blast, or debris flying as fast as bullets.

The death toll will rise. It always does.
