I see the snowflakes have taken over at Blizzard. If you don't like your job, work somewhere else.
...they'll probably do just that? Not like Blizzard has a monopoly over the gaming industry. If you're not being paid much then find out others are making more, of course your first impulse will be to complain. Unless your expectation is for employees to be submissive until they can't take it anymore.

so they all got a 10% raise on average and are still complaining. If they truely are worth more than that then go work somewhere else that will pay you more.

They mentioned in the article that several of their employees have moved over to Riot. It'll never be published publicly, but I'd love to see what Blizzard's turnover rate is.

ETA: skimmed their Glassdoor for chits, and nearly every review for the past year mentions high turnover. I'm guessing this pay raise didn't come out of nowhere.

Sad to see but Blizz has been dead for years. The open viewing of the casket was blizzcon 2018 diablo immortal and their subsequent actions.

Shareholders will figure it out in the next 5-10 years and customers loyal to the brand will last about that long due to denial but the company and everything that once made it great is dead.
We can't blame share-holders for this. They'd be just as happen seeing quality products coming out.

We have a legitimate rockstar CEO problem in this country. They spit shine the balance sheets in ways that aren't really reflective of the future performance of the company and sell that to everyone.

Stockholders would, by far, rather see a consistent quality product being released. Publishers are ALREADY making shareholders wait YEARS between products. The least they could do is actually develop something, but here we are. Bethesda, activision, blizzard, who ever...they all just stall for online subscription money.

All the money these days is in loot crates and DLC. You can spend $100M developing a $60 AAA game, take a 30% bath selling it through retailers and distributors, and hope to sell 2M copies just to break even. Or, you can pay $1M to animate a bunch of skins and emotes, pack them in a game you already own and split with no one, and sell them in loot boxes for $5 a pop. LOT easier path to profitability on the second one, so that's what companies are going for. EA made $1B in a fukking QUARTER just on FIFA lootboxes.

As far as low wages - there's always going to be a limitless pile of 22yo graduates willing to take any wage to work in video games, so supply and demand is on the employer's side. But it's not exactly groundbreaking Harvard Business School theory that overworking and underpaying people leads to turnover. You can bring those workers in at 22 years old, but they won't be there at 30. The coder guy's going to figure out that he can make 50% more per hour working a 9 to 5 doing database chit for his local hospital. The QA guy making minimum wage is going to realize he can't afford to live in Irvine once he's off his parent's insurance and is going to quit and move to Phoenix. It'd be fun to see what Blizzard's annual turnover is like.

For a company in the business of selling skins and emotes, cheap low-skill labor is what you want. It doesn't take 20 years of experience to draw a new spray to pack in a lootbox - you can get that done by churning n burning through entry level artists. But long term, that expertise you want to tackle ambitious new projects is going to be fukking gone. You want someone to design and program and animate new worlds - have fun doing that with a team of juniors.

So Blizzard isn't doing that. They're making their new games as simple, cheap and conservative as possible - Overwatch 2 is basically an expansion pack for Overwatch 1, Diablo Immortal is a handheld version of Diablo, Heartstone's a chit cheap mobile card game - and turning them into lootbox delivery systems. Gets you straight to the real profits and allows you to cut your labor to the bone. But over the long term, you're not making any new IP. If Diablo 4 chits the bed for example, that will probably be the end of the Diablo franchise on PC - then what are you going to replace it with? AFAIK, they've got nothing in the pipeline to replace that cash cow once it gets milked out.

90 day short-term focused management doesn't give a fuk about it as long as they keep hitting their bonuses, but over the long term, it's corrosive to your company.
I'm kind of cool with what Activision is doing with Modern Warfare. They have the battle pass, but it's made so that if you complete the season, you can buy the next one for free, which is what I've been doing. In Modern Warfare I bought the battle pass ($10) and I spent another $10 on a specific character that I absolutely needed to have, and that's it. I don't plan on spending anything else, nor do I want to. But you can buy a litany of crap in the game if you want to, and they are all PURELY cosmetic items and do not affect multiplayer at all. You can also buy exactly what you want, as opposed to just throwing random money at a loot crate hoping you'd get something you want. If you want to spend $100 dollars on cosmetic items, then so be it. But if you start introducing special weapons and loot crates giving random stuff, then that's kind of lame.
