Why is it that liberals are so anti-religion, mainly anti-Christianity?

I've never understood the notion on here that liberal atheists are mainly anti Christian. It seems the answer should be super obvious and with no hidden agenda against white males or the US or something like that.

It's very simple; most Americans are familiar with one religion, and that religion is Christianity. I am an atheist and believe all religions are made up fables to teach morals.

I can debate a Christian, because i was one and am familiar with it. I cannot debate a Muslim, because I don't know chit about Islam. The only thing I could say is Islam is bullchit. I couldn't quote a single passage from the Quran.

It really is that simple. Most of us ONLY know Christianity because it is the main religion of the west. If we were taught about Islam as much as Christianity, we'd pick at passages in the Quran just as much.

most miscers in the r/p are christian conservatives. they don't want to understand other viewpoints, and rarely (if ever) make statements and threads with the intent to engage in constructive discourse. more generally the misc r/p is an echo chamber through which conservative miscers strengthen their current allignments.

in that type of chat atmosphere its a complete waste of time to attempt a real discussion.

IMO atheists are the most brainwashed, close minded and weak people I know. No offense.
Most of them never actually want a debate, get emotional quickly and are most often than not militant.
When I think of an atheist the regular reddit user comes to my mind. Again, weak.

But, just one question. Would you say you are an atheist? Do you actually say that in real life if someone asks?

Asking because I was an atheist since I was a kid till around my 20s. I was a big fan of science and stuff like that. My career is very much in logics and abstraction so I don't know, never could believe there was a God.
Then in my 20s saying that I'm an atheist out loud started to bug me so I've decided that the most logical thing to do is not to think of it, basically I became agnostic. And it fit.
Then some time ago I've been through some deep thoughts and I started forcing myself to accept that indeed there is a God. It took a while because my "logical" brain would not accept such a thing. Nevertheless after a while I started to understand what this is about, to submit and, behold, it fit.

I think the greatest challenge was to let my ego submit to God. Sounds cringy, I know. What if He doesn't exist. What if I look like a fool?
Seems that these questions disappear after a while and then there is comfort and acceptance and it feels good.

Anyway, ending my dear diary here. Not sure you'll even be interested in reading this, but just wanted to share a little bit of my experience.

True Christians do not want religion and government joined together. They need them separate . Politicians can practice religion but church and state should never unite. It’d give government too much power over Who gets to worship and how.

I say there is no God a lot, but in my mind, when I say that, I just mean their version of God. I view "God" as the universe. IDK if there is a purpose or sentience behind this universe. It would be awesome if there were. But I know enough to know most descriptions of dieties and myths of creation and models of metaphysics and physics presented in major religions are either partially or entirely wrong. Do I believe in "a higher power"? Yes. That would be the universe. The supreme unity of all that exists...It is the most beautiful and horrifying thing there is -- existence itself. In my eyes, it is the closest thing to God. And I have a unique relationship with it since I am the observer.

The part about 'paying your debt to society'... Being in Prison does not give anything good back to society.

Just a pet peeve of mine when people think that simply spending time in prison is akin to atonement (I mean that in a moral sense).

If that person turns their character around, and vows to try to play their part in turning people away from crime, then that is a different story. Simply going to prison means nothing, IMO.

Slavery still exists in America, if you're convicted of a crime then you must "pay for your freedom" through a certain number of years of slavery, your master being American society.

Technically those who're sentenced to life without parole are condemned to slavery until death. This technically goes against the 8th Amendment of the Constitution, “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” A life of slavery is cruel but I guess it could be argued that it is not unusual.
