Doctors also have biases and different ways they like to treat their patients. I see it in the different ways they treat these covid patients. The pulmonologists at our hospital rotate weekly and they each have a different treatment plan for their patients than the pulmonologist the week before had. Some also have different opinions than the infectious disease docs in regards to the virus which sometimes causes issues with their isolation status.

I am simply looking for studies proving/disproving the effectiveness of masks to further educate myself I don’t see what your issue is with that

As the OP states, I’m not asking for opinions, I’m asking for studies. Unless one of these miscers published one of these studies, I don’t see your point.

I’m physical therapist assigned to the ICU and step down covid units and I have been there since March.

That was not my intention. As I said I wear a mask. I have just never thoroughly researched it. I’m assuming more research came out and that’s why Fauci and the WHO changed their minds regarding masks. But I find it odd that Fauci, a dude who has had that position since I believe the Reagan era and has years of experience didn’t believe that masks worked at first. What changed? I would just like to see the studies rather than just blindly believe what I’m being told.

In March, April and May, no masks did not work. Anybody who suggested otherwise was a right-wing bigot who believed in conspiracy theories and didn't trust the experts.

But beginning in June, yes masks work. This is science. This is why everybody has to wear a mask at all times. No the material does not matter, since we still can't get n95 masks after 3 months, but you can pick whatever. But you have to comply. We're all in this together.

He also has since clarified his point, that was 99% clear in the video, that the issue was a shortage of masks.

Valid point. But he does state “there is no reason to be walking around with masks.” I understand this was back in March, and things change and that’s why I want to see the studies and the evidence.

It's absolutely respectable to want to see studies and evidence, that puts you above most of the people in this forum, myself included where I'm willing to just rely on a general consensus because wearing a mask is of little burden to me.

The WHO/US Surgeon General feared people would hoard masks leaving the frontline hospital workers without which could lead to collapse of countries. 'They' knew the virus was spreading rapidly just from talking to others, especially indoors, and didn't want to create a panic. Although it was deceitful, I think their plan worked. Even with those precautions, they still needed to raid certain hoarders of n95s to redistribute them to hospitals.

In Feb/March everyone in South Korea were wearing masks. Do you know why? Because they aren't dumb like Westerners are.

As for what I said, the flu doesn't transmit asymptomatically, like covid does, so it is not as contagious and all you need to do is stay home while feeling sick. That's why people who don't stay home when they get sick are massive douchebags, since they could halt the flu by having some basic regard for others by staying home while feeling sick.

You are right; this covid mask situation will likely make people more sensitive to other people's well-being, and then they might stay home, (or wear a mask in public while feeling sick) in the future, and this will lower the annual number of flu deaths significantly.

plenty of studies on the use of masks which they could have used to justify it, if you don't know the extent of which COVID-19 can spread, logic would dictate the recommended use of masks. Early on in the pandemic, the deadliness and spread of COVID-19 was OVERESTIMATED. You can say they didnt want to have people hoard N95 masks but they could have also recommended homemade masks. AT the very least Fauci and the SG could have qualified their statements by saying we don't know enough to say that you shouldn't wear a mask instead of saying that people shouldn't be wearing a mask.
