Need help and not sure where to look

    Hello,

Not sure if this is the right space but I need a solution and I've always heard of how friendly and supportive this forum was.

I'm in my early 30's and for as long as I can remember I've been tired both mentally and physically. My mother said I was quite energetic until I was about 3. Since then, I've been very sluggish. Growing up I was in swimming year round and baseball in the summer so I was active. I was always the slowest. Running, for example, looks like I'm falling forward more than anything. My mother says it's like my body couldn't keep up. On top of that I have always had a very hard time gaining muscle and my endurance sucks. I've been working out for about 3 years with a mix of CrossFit and weightlifting and it feels like I should be much further. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but everyone improves so much faster than I do. Also, it's very inconsistent. One day I can rock it and get a new PR and the next day I can't get close. During a workout, I get winded very easily and I sound like an asthmatic after a workout (I'm not, I've been tested) but I also recover fairly quickly. I find it hard to breath properly in general when I work out. I've had blood tests and everything has come out normal. I'm also vegan but this started way before I was vegan. I follow up with a nutritionist and eat well.

Basically, I'm always tired, my cardio sucks, my endurance sucks, and it's incredibly hard to gain muscle. I was hoping anyone here has any ideas about what I could do. I want to be energetic and active. I really want to be motivated to workout. A trainer at my gym says we should be motivated by our own success but it's pretty hard to be motivated by your success when your always lagging behind.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I've run out of things to look up on google, and my doctor simply says it's "my baseline". (In other words, deal with it.)

    Please help!!

Cut out the CrossFit and cardio first of all. Cardio isn't really going to help with muscle mass, and CrossFit is a good way to injure yourself.
Make sure your reps are 90% of your max 1 rep, and that you're doing 2 sets of 12 reps. Unless you're so sore that you can't function, you should go every day. Don't take ibuprofen when you're recovering. Make sure you're getting 40 grams of protein within an hour after your workout. Lastly, pick one cheat day where you can eat whatever you want.

Can you ask your nutritionist to refer you to a knowledgeable, experienced and caring (local) personal trainer? This person will be able to work closely with you; they can tailor a resistance weight training and cardio program (could be as simple as fast-paced walking outside in the sunshine!) to meet your own individual needs. You sound very motivated! You just need the right personal guidance.

Just a thought- have you been tested for chronic fatigue syndrome? Have you asked your internist, or a specialist, if there are reliable blood tests for this type of autoimmune issue (there are varying degrees).
Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

Let's show RESPECT for the POLICE and ALL FIRST RESPONDERS by helping to keep THEM SAFE AND SOUND, and thereby able to PROTECT US!

I agree with etet1919...it sounds like something is going on, whether that's something medically or not I would try a different course of action. I think a personal trainer would be great idea as they can tailor everything to you and it may help you not get disheartened....
As for crossfit - And this is purely my opinion - the idea is great but its maybe not the best environment for you - there's nothing more disheartening than writing DNF on the board! Don't put yourself in a position where you are constantly chasing someone else! You need to find whats right for you and that may be taking elements of crossfit and adapting them to you but AWAY from the Crossfit world...does that make sense? Id take a step back and find what works for you - there are no hard and fast rules to this...
I am shocking at Cardio, like you, no endurance and the only time you will ever see me run is if someones chasing me!!! for years I have been trying to find what works for me... 3years ago I found weight training and calistenics...& have never looked back.....
Dont give up...your motivation is inspiring I just think you are maybe looking at the wrong sport for your needs.
    Good luck!
