Tell me about diesel ford 6.0 engines

Are they unreliable? There seems to be a lot of small issues with them.

I don't like the fact that their fuel injectors are driven by an obscenely high oil pump pressure of 4000psi, but I don't normally mess with diesels.

And somebody can certainly correct me if I am wrong but all Powerstrokes essentially work off of oil pressure … a Cummins uses a lift pump to an injection pump that sends the pressure into orbit to run correctly.

Have had a number of buddies with them. Kind of like the article says, only one buddy had an issue (which was early) and was fine after.

With how nuclear the new diesels are now, would be hard to pass up just buying a new one and not having to mess with anything.

Been known to be chitty unless you dump a couple grand into it to make it reliable. Idk how the newer ones are, I'd stick with a used 7.3.

I have yet to speak with anyone who ever owned a 6.0 that had anything good to say about them.

7.3 power stroke or 12v cummins. Can’t go wrong there. Reliable, can make cheap power, easy to work on.

You really can’t ask these questions about something like a 6.0 because the responses are biased and most have very little experience. They tend to go bad between 70 and 130k. If you’re looking at a stock one with over 140k and has no problems I’d say you’re golden. But outside of that you gotta have all the work done, then they’re good. Some people hate them but if I get a 6.0 in for sale, they still sell quick

Stuff that cracks me up: people will tell you a Ford 6.0 with 230k is a lemon. Like what, how? It’s got 230k and it’s still going. I’ve sold quite a few over the years, the worst one had about 70k miles on it

I'm about to pass 300k on mine..... I bulletproofed it around 200k and I'm gonna have to do some suspension work soon but it's still running strong

What exactly do you want to know about the 6.0's? They're the best bang for the buck if you know how what you're doing. With a little effort you can throw heads on it (pull the cab off), change the stand pipes and egr delete and its a million mile truck with little to no issues.

If its been bulletproofed properly you wont have anything to worry about. Half of the stock ones spend as much time in the shop as they do on the road.

yea I believe the guys are talking about the heads that crack around the seats. they all do.
