    Shoulder surgery experiences

Anyone got experience with any sort of shoulder surgery whether it be labrum repair or Rotator cuff tear repair? ... Got a procedure for torn posterior (back) labrum coming up because of persisting instability/pain and curious what to expect. Nothing too serious but seems like the recovery is somewhat lengthy. I am pretty serious about lifting so I fully intend on returning at or around 100%.

    Cheers

I had this exact surgery done 7 years ago. I popped part of my labrum doing 110lb incline dumbbell presses one day and despite nearly a year of PT/rehab my should never did get better. In fact, I think I probably made it worse by continuing to train around the injury.

Regardless, the surgeon went in arthroscopically (3 small holes) and did the repairs. I had a severe lack of ROM in the shoulder for months afterward and the recovery was slow. By about 1 year after the surgery, my shoulder was 95-98% as capable as it was beforehand. But by that time I was really nervous about lifting heavy again and never did go back to chasing my previous heavy lifts.

Probably not the answer you were hoping to get, but should surgeries aren't pretty and take a long time to fully recover from. Best of luck.

I have not had surgery on my shoulders but I have rehabbed them myself more times then I can count (or remember)
I have noticed those that had surgery took as long to recover or longer then those that just went to rehab.
I had my worst shoulder cuff tear about a year and a half ago and it is almost back to normal. No pain but just a little bit of shoulder instability I have to strengthen.

I can't tell you if you need surgery or not. But tak to your doctor to see if he thinks its really necessary to have a recovery.

Feel for you man, I had a torn rotator cuff muscle (the one on the back of your shoulder, forget what it’s called) but luckily muscles heal and it wasn’t the tendon
