Thinking about getting one as a daily driver. What are your thoughts?
It's sporty, relatively cheap, and pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

I have a 2014 FRS (monogram) and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Been waiting to see the 2nd generation stats/photos. Handles well but yes as its wide known not fast. I still like it though, gas mpg could be better, I average 22/23mpg. Haven't had any issues with it. A used one should be cheap.

They're cool. The engine is sh*t, but it's about as fast and powerful as a Miata relative to weight. It's a "slow car fast" type of deal, and a beast in the corners. The main problem with it (besides POS interior) is that when you start modding it (FI), it just breaks. Everything breaks. The trans breaks, the rods and pistons go, the axles and driveshaft snap, the clutch slips, etc. You basically have to upgrade the whole car just to supercharge it, which makes it an awful value proposition compared to something like a Camaro or M240i

The originals are a classic sports car but way overpriced these days, the type of car that originally only stood out for being a decent budget car but as the collector value went up the appeal dropped dramatically.
As for the new ones they are alright I guess, sort of a replacement for what the Celica used to be. If I was in the market for an entry level sports car I would consider it appealing, a lot better than some FWD Honda at least. It's probably a good first car type of thing, I bet they're cheap enough to run and insure these days. That said I would definitely buy a ND MX5 over one, the Miata is basically the same type of sports car but far more appealing to me.

I would. The Mazda is about 400lbs lighter. And it got pretty good ratings. https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/mazda/mx-5-miata
They also look nicer imo. The 86 looks like its made out of cheap plastic. Whereas the Miata is pure Japanese sheet metal origami. Hiyah!*Catholic Crew*

I have one and had a Miata before it and a Porsche 911 Turbo before that.
911 was a good GT but below 90 mph was just no fun.
Miata had TERRIBLE body roll but my wife looked cute in it.
The 86 is a good compromise. Mine is track focused and I don’t use it on the street much.
For a daily driver none of the above cars are any good imo. Get a Honda Civic or something. If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

when I still had the Miata I drove a BRZ. After the first on-ramp I was sold and so was the Miata. The Miata is a great car it just depends what your priorities are.
If you change the suspension on the Miata then it’s a whole new world. The car comes alive. Should come from the factory like thatLast edited by Tommy W.; 12-19-2020 at 05:04 PM.

Even then their days are numbered. You can make a V6 powerful but its going to be forced induction and the sound will be hit or miss.
More interested in the 400Z. If that ends up being a decently powerful manual I will probably buy one as a backup to my other cars.
The 86 looks like it will be a bit too underpowered to be really fun. It still likely will be a fun little car though, just not enough for most people.Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
