I want to thank everyone for all the feedback. This has been really useful to give me things to think about.

At this point I'm leaning towards the Legend 3 way or the Prime, primarily to be determined based on if my fiance wants a decline option.

I'm only 5'7" and my fiance is 5'5" so I don't think having a 12" pad is going to be the most important thing as neither of us have a large frame. A bit narrower may even be a bit better for dumbbell work using a full range of motion (maybe not... I wish I had paid attention to bench widths over the years at different gyms I trained at but I never measured anything). I also don't ever really foresee myself benching >315 pounds, or at least not much more than that, so the fact that the padding is not very firm for Prime may not work so much against it. The height of the bench really does not concern me very much as we can use platforms to prop our feet up if needed. Both of those two options have a single front foot and the seat pad seems to taper a bit, which I like as I absolutely hate to feel like I'm straddling a bench when doing incline work of any sort.

The Rogue Adjustable 2.0 is 128 pounds and I'm trying to picture my fiance moving that around and it's not happening easily. Everything else about it looks nice though and I could move it for my fiance if needed so I'm still considering this (unless she really wants to do decline work). The other strike against it as currently isn't in stock.

The Rogue AB-2 and AB-3 both look like it may be hard to tuck the feet under due to the width of the front feet. The Rogers one is >140 pounds and they don't list the specs, it also looks like a lot more than I need overall.

I cannot find a cybex 5435 or hammer strength FWADJ with googling so I don't think those are realistic options for me. Perhaps there are used equipment websites I am not aware of. The hammer pro bench looks nice but they do not list any specs.

The B-177 also looks good, is only 17" height, and is even lighter; I may contact them to see what the price would be and availability if my fiance doesn't see herself using a decline option.

Anybody know if there would be any downside to purchasing the Legend bench from: https://www.ironcompany.com/legend-3...-utility-bench?

Talked it over with the fiance and she thinks Legend would be best. I will contact them, thank you. I will still think about this for another couple of days before making a final decision.

Reps for all who are not on spread (it'll be a day or two as there is a limit to how much rep can be given out in 24 hours).

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if Prime does a clear coat option and for how much? Most of my Home gym is sold, but am Looking at an RM6 Clear Coat. But In terms of benches was wondering which ones look best in clear coat if that was an option. I currently have an Icarian Super Bench and a Cybex 5435 that I need to clean up anyhow, but getting all the paint around the corner would be kinda difficult.

Heisman, one more bench to consider, the adj bench by Ghost Strong. They make equipment for strongmen, powerlifters, etc.. This bench is only 175 lbs, 300 lbs shipped. It might be a little challenging for your fiance to move. It's one easy payment of $1200 before shipping. https://www.ghoststrong.com/fitness-...ustable-bench/

All joking aside, I can't stress enough how important height is. I'm 5'8", my bench is 16 1/2" and it works great for me. I'm able to handle heavier dumbbells, get better workouts and get stronger versus having a taller bench. I wouldn't want a bench any higher than 17". To buy a bench and have to put plates under my feet or platforms is an unnecessary hassle that can be tricky and can affect the quality of your workouts.

I actually just stumbled upon Ghost when watching a Julius Maddox video today, lol. Curious if you saw the same video.

The B-177 has the 17" height but I actually quite prefer a 30 degree angle for incline work over a 35 degree angle. I could prop the front up on something perhaps to make it a bit more shallow. The lighter weight is a bonus for that compared to the Legend. I really don't see propping my feet up on blocks to be a big hassle; I can just build platforms of whatever width I choose to put next to the bench while lifting. I will contact Atlantis though and see what the cost is as I'm curious.

I don't think this came up yet but it's important and much more so than 10" vs 12" wide pad. Anything above 17-17.5" is just not a proper bench. I don't know why they are even made as whoever is making the product has no clue. I'm 6'3 and I have decently long limbs...I can't use them correctly. Drive is crushed unless you are Shaq. Anything in the 18.5-21" range...just say no. Now you can certainly find a few moderate height guys who will tell you their 20" bench may not be the best but it's just fine - don't listen to them, this translates as "I don't know how to bench properly."

Yes, we're definitely in agreement here. I've used 18" benches before at gyms and have to arch my back to get my feet flat on the floor. I use dumbbells north of 100 lbs regularly. So I lift them off the floor (it's a mini deadlift) pull them across my stomach and onto my chest. Even if I'm using lighter dumbbells it just feels a lot more natural.

Not to be political but "Bench Height Matters" or "BHM".

Still waiting for a quote on the B-177; Legend would be $706 including shipping and not including state tax, with an estimated delivery date of 8 weeks. Prime would be ~$775 (with no state tax listed) and a 4-6 week time per the website. Once I get the quote & time frame for the B-177 I'll see what my gut tells me.

Curious is that quote direct from legend. Legend has always delivered ahead of schedule. Can’t use a few weeks difference to make your decision, just get which one you think you want. #marshmallowtest.

Quote was from Legend. I definitely feel you on the not letting a few weeks make a difference. If these are all fairly similar in price within a couple hundred dollars, and there is no big advantage to the legend or b177 over prime, I'll probably go ahead and get the prime with the decline attachment as I'm sure we would end up doing ab work on it while still having a really good bench that is not too heavy.

Lol, this forum seems rather anti-Coop. The first thread I made about building a home gym I was pointed towards his YouTube channel and thus watched a lot of his videos, including the Prime one, so that probably is playing.a role in nudging me towards it. It is apparently rather hard for me to make decisions on what to purchase when I do not have the opportunity to try the products first, lol.

Can guarantee one thing, it wasn't recommended by a member of the 'Equipment Crew'. Coop sells his reviews for free equipment, based on some of the stuff he says I'm not entirely sure he actually uses the equipment before writing a review.

Given the heights you listed and the fact that your fiance doesn't walk to move a tank around you may look into the Ironmaster Pro. Very stable, low height, pad isn't very wide and easy to move. Then you can get a heavier flat bench for putting up larger BP numbers. Not the best, strongest option but something that will work for two people.

I have the rep FB-5000 for benching (low, strong, wide pad) and the IM pro for db work and decline ab work. Also got the leg curl and crunch attachments. The I pro is lower to the ground and the pad is better.

Again, if you're looking for the best these aren't it but this set up works for me (5'6") and both are easy to move around for your fiance

Cool, that's good to know, I'll start taking what he says with a grain of salt. Someone should have mentioned this in my first thread before I watched a lot of his videos!

When you say "Equipment Crew" do you mean the regular posters here? The one poster above says he loves his and in his other thread dedicated to it he says he prefers it to the Legend (though likes the padding on the Legend better). Not clear to me if anyone else here has even tried the Prime?

That actually looks quite nice and there are a variety of attachments; it's also much cheaper than some of the other ones listed. They say here it will be back in stock at the end of July. https://www.ironmaster.com/products/super-bench-pro/ Are there any obvious downsides to that bench? I'm thinking the perpendicular seat for incline work would be potentially irritating.

Also, for completeness, I got the quote for the B177 and it's >$700 with an additional >$300 for shipping as it comes from Canada... total cost would be ~$1200 so I'm not getting that, lol.

Yes, the regulars that have posted here for years have the 'Equipment Crew' in their signature line. When it comes to premium equipment you're likely to get opinions on one or the other, for most people that's a 'Buy Once Cry Once' purchase so it's unlikely they have both to draw a comparison. So at that point it's based on bench features, desired specifications, and brand reputation. Haven't seen a crew member get their hands on a Prime yet, but the quality and performance of the Legend bench is well known (I've owned two). I currently own the Ironmaster Pro bench mentioned above and it's fantastic, picked it up on sale for around $320 shipped and I'll likely grab the hybrid pad in the future.

Yeah Coop's review on the newly released REP belt squat attachment was an embarrassment to watch. He recommends it for doing weighted pullups and basically ignores the huge flaws in design to actually do belt squats properly.

100% Agree. Also, they had the slow motion portion where he kept banging the pin to get it in place, but he never discussed setup so I'm guessing it was negative. I've also noticed some interesting flex on the front arm during use, the belt squat attachment looks like a real loser but Coop will say "I think you should buy this". LOL

I'll have the Prime bench here hopefully near the beginning of August so I'll give my thoughts on it once I have used it a few times. I figured worst case scenario I can get a flat bench as well since the only thing I am concerned with is the width. Being able to lock it into my FT is a real plus though so I don't see myself selling this one as I am sure it would function fine as an incline/decline bench since my AB-3000 was good enough for that and I didn't really like that bench very much at all. I don't have as much experience as some of you guys but I've been through three Rep benches so far (AB-3000/5200 and FB-5000) so I've at least learned what I do and don't want in a bench.

Thanks for all the additional feedback, and cwcmac I saw the edit you listed as well. Ironmaster may be the way to go then given the available ab/leg work attachments since it seems very passable for dumbbell work. I wasn't planning on purchasing anything for leg extensions/curls but if I can do it with this bench that'll be a plus. I doubt I'll ever bench 350+ so if I use this and get the hybrid pad this may be fully sufficient for flat barbell benching as well.

Another vote for the Legend. Shipping from Legend sucks (at least for my location it did), in that it was pretty pricey. However, the bench is solid.

The main downfall on incline is that the seat is lower to the ground. I don’t have issues with it but it probably sucks for taller people.

The crunch attachment works great (although they should upgrade the roller pads). The leg curl is serviceable. Not great by any stretch but OK as a space saver. Can’t speak about the other attachments.

Also, I don’t use it for flat bench. Pad is narrower than I like so that is personal preference.

They have a hybrid pad that is 10.25" on half and 12.25" on half. https://www.ironmaster.com/products/hybrid-bench-pad/ That would likely be nice as I can get the full ROM with dumbbells more easily while still benching flat with the better support.
