    Very weak bench for level of development?

    Hey guys,

    My chest has always been my best muscle group. I had some mass there even when I was a skinny twig (well, some of you would still consider me that ) and it would grow even when I didn't focus on it at all (for example, tricep dips as only push exercise). My triceps are fine and my front delts are probably overdeveloped... so I would expect to be able to bench a lot.

    But my max bench is 180lb. Recent PR actually. Just a couple months ago it was ~150.

    So I'm wondering, do I have terrible form? Are long arms really a ridiculous impediment? Am I overestimating my muscle mass due to leanness? I mean seriously, I've seen dudes with no chest at all bench 200+

    1. You look fairly skinny. Mass moves mass.

    2. Triceps play a greater role in raw bench than chest.


    3. A lot of people are lazy with their bench technique work and could bench 20% more if they were taught or took the time to learn how to get set up tighter, improve bar path, grip the bar tighter, unrack better, keep constant leg drive etc

    Yeah, I only weigh like 165. But that's just an unfortunate lack of lower body mass at the moment (which I'm working hard to fix!). Bench has been going up.

    Does barely more than bodyweight sound about right for my physique? I tend to think I look a bit better than that, but my perceptions could be warped by starting so small.

    You prob want to be able to bench more than barely above bodyweight regardless of physique, but the point is you went up 30 lbs on BP in the last 2 months, so just keep working, eat at a slight surplus and it'll keep going up. Continued progress is more important than the # at this exact moment in time.

    you don't have much of a physique. need to put on some mass and maybe check out Montana method for bench
