They were infact a great tag team but during their initial run, they were in the shadow of legendary teams like demolition, hart foundation and eventually LOD. it just wasnt their time on the card for that in contrast to everyone else

They were a very technically great tag team!
I loved their WM moment at wm7. I wAs watching wwf at the time they were The Rockers and I remember thinking they werent as good as Hart foundation, demolition, Andre and Haku, bushwhackers, powers of pain, Twin towers or Brainbusters. On par with orient express, strike force and the Killer Bees.

That’s how stacked the division was back then.

granted i was very young during their run, but dont remember anyone giving a chit about them besides women/girls.

they did win the tag titles off camera at a house show, but the reign was never recognized as canonical.

That makes sense. Just in an era of stacked tag team roster.

The tag team division was so stacked back then that the rockers were just stuck in place behind legit legends in the business. It also didnt help that Janetty wasnt as professional as Shawn was

hbk was smart enough to revamp his character and have a go at a singles career, because in the rockers they would have just gotten their ass kicked for their whole career

Question : If Marty J. Got as focused on wrestling like HBK did, could they have made it as tag champs and be as decorated as LOD?

Marty was a huge party head back then and prolly coked out majority of the time. Prolly influenced shawn to begin with. I think having them on the spotlight was a huge risks for vince

They should have predicted the future and emulated Scott Hall in WCW by having Marty come out all fuked up to the ring and incorporate elements of real life. Have Shawn get on the mic and say, “I don’t even know you anymore, man”. Oh well. Shawn’s career worked out in the end.

because they were over, no reason to push them to the top. considering the tag teams of that time, they could work with anyone and everyone and better suited to "chase" rather than obtain titles. They also saw a lot in Shawn obviously that it didnt make sense. Demolition, Nasty Boys, brainbusters, money inc., etc. it was mostly an era of heel tag teams that could hold the straps while the faces chased and got over massively that would start face stars.

Beautifully said I think you nailed it. Hbk has super kicked his way into my heart.

The rockers had better matches than road warriors . But road warriors vs Money Inc was an epic moment in wrestling history.

I used to believe Lod were the goat but I was hard pressed to point to any Truly good matches they had. Canadian stampede aside.

He is the ultimate wrestling snob. He is off his Rocker at times.

He thinks He’s the Andre The Giant of the locker room.

Hbk said the other stars who had larger than life physiques looked down on them. He said Andre The Giant didn’t speak to either of them for the first 2 years they were in WWF.

The veterans just passed by backstage them even though they were good, they could wrestle, they had a good look together.

Hbk may have became a colossal prick once he gained pull backstage but he busted his ass and paid his dues in The Rockers to become a breakout star.

They had a good look and gimmick. They were crazy over, but there was no real reason to make them the big champs of the division. They even tried to bring Marty back in the mid 2000's but dude was too much of a party guy, blow and booze killed his career man.

Honestly, they were too small. Demolition, Nasty Boys, LOD, Haku/Barbarian, Haku/Andre, Power and Glory, even Hart Foundation mainly due to Jim, just dwarfed them. The late 80s/early 90s were all about size and they just didn't cut it. Shawn hadn't fully developed yet either to where he could match strength with technique like Bret could

As talented as both guys were, the gimmick was a rip off of the RnR Express. Look at those outfits. Awful. They had midcard written all over them, especially when looking at the other teams of that era.

Plus, as good of workers as they were, good fuking luck getting memorable matches from any non-Hart Foundation or Bulldog team, so their biggest strength of often wasted working as rag dolls to some team of behemoths.

no bc bret came from a well respected family and a lot of those guys had done business with stu prior to bret working for kennedy. bret also had a rep as the star of that territory before his time in wwf.

hickenbottom and jannety just came from less than exciting run in awa
