"Core games" wasn't a thing when the $60 price tag got introduced. Back in the PS2 era when you bought a $60 video game you got the complete experience on the disc. Nothing was split off or sold separately, when you bought a game you got the entirety of the content with your purchase. DLC has made that go away, now if you want the entire experience you need to pay extra. This has changed everything.

It really depends on the type of the game. BFV promised a lot with their "live service" model that they failed to deliver on. I'd be pissed if I had spent a full $60 on that game. Shows how incomplete it was that you could get it at Target for $30 a week and a half after its release.
Sports games also usually deliver the same game year after year with very small improvements and a roster update. Some games (both Madden and NBA 2k have done this) remove features and then add them back in several years later and use that to hype the latest game. On top of that they've found their goldmine in Ultimate Team mode, which is the same thing every year with a couple new added players and people dump thousands of dollars into building teams in that mode, and the devs neglect other parts of the game like core gameplay improvements and franchise modes that older and more dedicated fans enjoy.
I mostly play multiplayer shooters and sports games so I wouldn't know about the better single player titles, although I did play through the Spider Man game a couple months ago and got more than my money's worth out of it, so kudos to them for that game.

Yea dlc didnt exist. There wasnt extra available content before.
The existence of extra content is for people that want to pay more for extra. Has nothing to do with a base game.
For example, I just finished tlou2. It's a base game. If they come out with extra content that's fine. I only wanted and payed for the base game

Lol try telling that to everyone who bought games like Street Fighter X Tekken that had on-disc content that was locked behind paid DLC. It's no secret how a lot of big publishers these days intentionally leave out content that should be included just to charge extra for it later.
What is considered a "base game" is a new concept compared to when games started being sold at $60, and more often than not it's a purposely watered down version of a game.

I'm not denying there are examples of games that abuse that system, but the vast majority are not doing that. There is not a single game I've played( and I play a fuk ton of games) where that has been the case. The base games are always absolutely complete to the point where DLC is just overkill for me. good for the people that want more though, why not have that option for people that want more?

If its a complete game with a ton of replay value then 70$ is fair (ie GTA-V). I don't work in the game industry but it seems to me that game engines are advanced enough that simply saying it cost more money/time to develop is getting a little old such as Unreal Engine 5. You can load assets in without having to mess with LOD and other things saving tons of time. Especially when they nickel and dime ya on so many micro transactions and extras. THe game industry messed with the old model of simply releasing a complete game for the money that I'm much more hesitant to put my money up for one based on fancy trailers that don't always represent the game well or is littered with addons and microtransactions that make you feel ripped off.
The best thing that's happened to the game industry in a while is Gamepass. I've played more games and a much wider variety because of it and saved a bunch of money after realizing certain games are just not as advertised or not what I was expecting.

its not bullchit.......games have not gone up in price for 15 years. That is a fact. By inflation games should be $78 instead of $60. Thats a fact. The existence of DLC does not change this dude. The handful of games that abuse the system dont change this.
You seem to be against the notion of companies making extra content for DLC. Would you be happier if they just never made anything extra? Why? What is wrong with them making extra optional content for an extra price? I dont understand the problem with this

But they only produce the extra content to make extra money.
Otherwise they wouldn't bother. You're basically saying you want them to make DLC content but not charge extra for it but most companies will just stop making the extra content at all. And then the people who wanted extra just lose out on stuff they would have been happy to buy.
As I said I have not bought a single DLC in my life but I'm glad it exists for those that want it

How much of a fkn absolute cuck do you have to be to argue in favor of billion dollar corporations raping you harder?
Legit LMAO @ spouting your inflation bullchit as if you're the only person who understands such a simple f*cking concept. Nevermind that gaming is a F*CK TON bigger and more lucrative than it ever has been (brb more profit than fkn movies at this point). Never mind the huge shift to digital this gen has made. Nevermind chitty dlc and microtransactions F*cking over game design to (not so) subtly cuck players out of even more money. You could do all that and more to TinyBallsMc****** and he'll still blow you on the daily lmao

Acknowledging the business and financial reality that game prices have not kept up with inflation does not make me a cuck.
And you clearly still dont get inflation while acting like you do. Adjusting for inflation is keeping costs the same. Its not "raping you harder" if the costs are staying the same as they have been historically.
You guys are absolute retards holy s*it

Yeah exactly, and DLC is hardly a rare occurrence these days. He is trying to make it sound like there is only a handful of examples where DLC is being sold when the reality is that it's pretty much a standard practice among all AAA games these days. The "games haven't done up in price" argument simply doesn't hold up, and that is all there is to it. It seems like most games these days have a deluxe or ultimate edition that costs more anyways, and it's always full of some day one DLC that they intentionally leave out to charge extra for. He might be fine with turning a blind eye to such practices but the industry isn't going to see a stitch of sympathy from me so long as it's doing that.

I typically wait for a 50% off sale or more anyway. Day 1 buys are few and far between now (usually 1-2 a year) and I wouldn't enjoy paying the extra $15 (lets be real its Canada) but I would

DLC happens all the time, what I've been saying is that very rarely is it at the expense of the base game itself not being worth the price of the base game. As long as what you're buying is worth the price you're paying, the existence of extras is irrelevant.
You guys are acting like they take a game with a full games worth of content and then artificially cut half of it out and make you pay extra. Thats not what happens. I would argue more games that I buy are bloated with crap I dont need and/or too long than the ones that feel like they have too little content.
