F-150 raptor worth the extra $30K??

So it's painfully obvious I need a pick up since I've moved out to the sticks and with Ford's incentives here and what not I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new one. I found one I like with the 3.5 that ticks all my "need" boxes for a truck and it comes in after all the dealer shenanigans at $45Kish. They also have a few raptors there that are in the $75-$80 range. There is something appealing about being able to go play king of the hammers out of the box, and now I live in place I can do that whenever I feel the urge. For you F150 guys, is it worth the extra $30K for the suspension and HP from Ford or are aftermarket mod's the way to go?? Leaning toward mod's but I've heard such good things about flogging a raptor, thought I'd ask.

I think it is, but others may not. It's really the only truck in its class but Dodge seems like they'll try to compete soon. You're getting an entirely new front end (bumper, grill, hood, fenders) and wider bed, plus a legit off road suspension. The control arms are very beefy and the shocks are the real deal. The engine originally came in the Raptor but now is offered in I believe the Lariat models as well. The power is good for a truck and the aluminum body helps a ton as well as the 10 speed, but it doesn't wow me all that much after coming from quick sports cars, and it doesn't sound good imo. In the end, you're getting the exclusivity and resale value over a regular F150 so that factored into my purchase a lot as well. The only con to a Raptor is the price, and that's subjective. If you can afford it, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I hear ya'. That price and how often will I truly be able to get out and abuse it... gotta' think about that. The price difference is almost a new type R or used elise if I'm keeping it in perspective. Then again, king of the hammers out of the box... makes it tough.

Having driven a few late model F-150’s in lariat, Limited, and platinum trims, along with a 2018 Raptor. My vote is the Raptor is absolutely worth it.

Especially the new 2019/2020 Raptors with the new Fox Live Valve 3.0’s.

You also get a host of on the fly drive / steering / suspension / transmission settings which the normal trucks do not.

Along with the additional power, suspension, bodywork, interior accents, and amazing resale value.

Sure you could build up a more capable F-150 from a base model, but I prefer driving to wrenching and the resale would not be there. So for me, it’s very much worth the extra $30k.

Amazingly enough the old lady said I should spend the extra coin so I don't negate the warranty with a tune and mod's.

They are pretty damn amazing performers right off of the lot.... I got to hoon one around for a weekend on my buddies ranch and was seriously impressed. So much so I started shopping around LOL... but end of the day I just dont have enough damn room. It wouldn't be my daily driver... I already have 2 Mustangs parked in the garage along with a side by side (which is hopefully getting sold this weekend). Maybe one of these days

FUUUUUUUUUCK that...If I dont have a reason to own a Diesel ill never own one again. Fuel is expensive (funny story on that one below) , maintenance is expensive , repairs are expensive etc. etc. etc... My little 3.5l Ecoboost tows my car and boat just fine.

    Story Time...

Once upon a time I DID do the whole Diesel thing. Bought a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9L when fuel was still $.99 / Gal... Literally 3 months after I bought it fuel went to $4.00/gal. Ended up having to buy a $hitbox off of CL to use as a daily driver and park a brand new truck in the drive way. Thanks Obama

Remember when you test drive it that it is probably filled with regular 87 octane. It wakes up big time stock if you put 93 in it and have it in sport mode.

I've put 15k miles in one year on a 2019 Raptor and it's probably the best bang for your buck vehicle on the planet. Bought it new for $73k fully loaded or something. It's very fun and easy to drive and an absolute tank in the snow.

Just bought a farmhouse out in the sticks on a dirt road that hasnt been maintained in at least a decade. I test drove a used Raptor today that had the 6.2L and probably going to pull the trigger. I'd get a new one if Ford had included them in the incentive plans these last few months. They hold their value really well and everyone around my area wants one. The used ones sell fast as fuk with people asking 5-7k over kbb

Rumor has it that it will get the Plaid treatment with 1,300 torque

The cybertruck styling may be polarizing but that tri-motor coming out next year might make you regret a raptor purchase

I owned a 2013 Raptor and it was a sweet truck . I’d have a new one if I could afford it, but I have a hard time associating a Raptor with a V6 engine .
They should have put a turbocharged or supercharged 302 in it , then you’d have something

yeah what do people want out of trucks - durability, reliability, towing capacity, towing over long distances ect

almost all of that goes against an EV with limited range. If people wanted acceleration or good fuel mileage they wouldnt be buying a truck in the first place.

I think it will be produced in low enough numbers and at high enough price though that they can probably break even.

Get the Raptor, if not you will always regret your choice. Just be sure to haggle the price as low as you can.

Are you fuking kidding me? Completely opposite of a raptor. Heavy, terrible shocks, and no off road capability.

I'd never buy a new one...get one a year or two old that some rich dude used to flex around the sub division. Save yourself a few racks.

Big facts.. but then again I have been an advocate of buying used for a long time now regardless of what vehicle it is.

Sales numbers are misleading. Add GMC sales to the Chevy sales (same truck essentially) and Ford is no longer #1.

*edit - not saying there is anything wrong with a Ford. The big 3 all produce a very nice pick up.
