Former UFC fighter Myles Jury breaks down how much UFC paid him(GTFIH, LMAO)

So he's your average nothing special fighter but got paid $33200 after taxes and expenses for fighting Chad Mendes

Fighting 2 times a year looking at his record, he would have topped at around 66k per year after taxes in the UFC. Apparently they have to pay their own medical expenses as well.

These ppl complaining should find another job if it hurts them so much.

If they were smart to begin with they should not rely on fighting as a dependent source of income but instead supplemental.

That's not a bad living, srs. Fight 2 times a year and you're making more than most Americans. Some people fight 4-5x a year. Plus, you're doing what you love as a profession. The more you win, the more you make. This doesn't mean I'm opposed to the fighters making more or starting a union. It's not hardly as bad as Nate and Masvidal are making it out to be though. Those guys are making 6-7 figures every fight for their last 5-10 fights.

The only thing I disagree with is the ****ty Reebok sponsorship. They could make way more off of their own advertisements.

Starting pay for unknown up-and-comers in the UFC straight out sucks. With that said, nobody watches the UFC for fighters like Myles Jury.

The UFC gives fighters the chance to make names out of themselves and start earning the big bucks.

Also, I seen this video a while back so I didnt watch it, but I assume Myles is earning ~100k gross?. That's average/above average a normal job's salary.

18% of the UFC profits go to fighters... sports with collective bargaining aim for 50/50 splits.

    Until that changes, nothing changes.

    It's 18% of total revenue.

UFC did $600m in revenue in 2018.

    18% of $600m = $108m

The UFC has a profit margin of about 25% according to Forbes.

    25% of $600m = $150m

So 72% (ish) of UFC profits go to fighters.

The numbers are higher with the ESPN deal and I hope fighter pay increases as well, but they don't rip the fighters off as bad as people think.

I just read this back and I'm not sure it's correct actually.

I think it could have meant that the UFC make 25% after paying fighters, in which case that is pretty scummy.

You know very well that the payment is for many hours work over the course of a training camp, which has unavoidable expenses of it's own, and not just for 15mins of action on fight night. Do you think the UFC is paying his coaches for their appearances that night? His insurance?

UFC is not far from NCAA in it's treatment of money makers.

He's definitely better than average. His only losses were to some elite guys. In his prime he was ranked top 10 in the ufc. If you're considered a top 10 fighter in the world at the biggest promotion you should be compensated way better

Lol if you think it's 15-25 minutes and that's it, you get to lay on your couch the other 363 days or so. You need to put in a certain amount of hours of training just to get good enough to make it into the UFC. Some guys just don't make it despite investing so much time into it. Once you get into the UFC you still need to put a certain amount of hours and they aren't starting you out at 50K to show up. You need to win fights and also do some own self promotion and marketing which also takes up some time. You need to show up for media days, UFC events, interviews, conferences, etc that all come with being a UFC fighter. A lot of guys starting out probably only get around 10K to show up. You still need to pay for your trainers, coaches, hotels/accommodations, medical expenses, gym fees, nutritionists, etc. Some guys are probably also paying for "supplements". You also risk getting injured and having to pull out which hurts your money. You also can't fight forever either, you maybe have around a 10-15 year MMA career then wtf do you do after? Sure people should maximize their time in MMA and branch out and build a following and a brand but still. You're just left with brain damage lol.

You only really get into MMA because you love it and are willing to sacrifice it all and it's the only thing you know how to do. I mean now the top tier guys are getting paid great money but if you're a journeyman, better hope performance of the night bonuses come your way.

That's why super marketable guys like O'Malley make it huge and cover their asses. Even if he goes on a losing spree and drops out of the UFC, he has 1 million instagram followers as well as on his way to youtube stardom so he is set for life if he plays it smart.

Those guys are making 6-7 figures every fight for their last 5-10 fights.

The only thing I disagree with is the ****ty Reebok sponsorship. They could make way more off of their own advertisements.
THIS. It sucks that these fighters have been cut off from alternate income streams by the UFC, just to please REEBOK.

its not bad for 15 mins of work x 2

Yeah, if you aren't using the UFC name and brand to leverage your own self image you're doing it wrong. Holloway and Whittaker have Twitch channels, Jorge Masvidal now has a youtube channel with 500K subs in a very short amount of time after it started. But granted these guys either held belts, have a fan friendly style, put on exciting performances in the cage, etc. Obviously controversy sells as well.

I truly hate the Reebok deal. I think they did it to inflate the UFC's valuation before selling. It benefits no one else.

The fighters make a fraction of what they used to.

How iconic were Chuck and Tito's shorts? Anderson's yellow/black theme? Cro Cop? No fighter has the chance to create anything like this now.

Sales must be abysmal for Reebok UFC apparel.

Sadly, Dana has already confirmed that there will be another sponsor. It's either Nike, Under Armor, or Venom.

technically, he doesn't need trainers or training camp and just wing it. he's either going to win the fight or not.

You are well aware that this is not how it works. Stop viewing fight night in a vacuum - it's disingenuous and rationally bankrupt.

Are you suggesting that he can compete in a professional fighting league and gain a string of fights without any assistance from anybody?
You really think the UFC just picks bums off the street, throws them a pair of gloves and they just figure it out on fight night?
Do you think that is a legitimate strategy in a sport where you roll the dice with brain damage and serious physical injury every time you compete?

I know where you're coming from. But I also know a lot of other guys that do it as a hobby at an amateur level and they are doing the same and aren't getting paid anything. Mixed martial arts is still a relatively new sport. Like it or not the reason why the UFC is the top organization in the world is because of their business model. It will likely evolve in the future. When it gets bigger and there is more money involved.

Lower tier fighters across the board typically earn very little money. Everyone likes to compare MMA to pro boxing and the mega purses involved in that. Well, the truth is the average pro boxer only earns around 35K-55K per year. When it comes to the fight game you've only two real options. Reach the top and be a top 5 fighter and get sponsors/endorsements. Or build a following then build a brand/business.

If these guys are smart they'd be building a following then marketing themselves on IG/youtube. I don't really follow any fighters but if any of them gets youtube down pat the sky is the limit as far as how much revenue they could make vlogging, training videos, etc.

As far as a long term plan if they are smart they'd branch off into business and use their fans as an income base. Connor McGregor is probably the best example of this.

Prime example on why he should have had a lawyer going over any contracts/licensing deals. An athlete who doesn't know anything about business is going to get fukked by big companies.

If UFC fighters were smart they would have started a player's union or started their own organisation. There is nothing inherently interesting about the UFC to viewers. It's not the NHL or NFL, if the players all walked the viewers would too. Just call it the UFL and host your own events. Boom you can actually take cuts of the hundreds of millions some cards get. Low fighters will now get 6 figures a fight probably.

How didn't the UFC wait long till nyc finally let them host events there? Gl starting up an organization and competing against a company that now has a multi billion dollar media parent company and their other billion dollar connections.

You're an idiot. The only leverage this company has is name fighters now. It's no longer MMA and the spectacle of multiple disciplines it's about the names. If the fighters walk the UFC is over. It doesn't matter how many connections you have no one's paying $40 to watch some noname fighter vs some other no-name fighter when khabib vs gaethje is on some other channel.
