Or maybe it’s both? We don’t have a way to prove either. Also earlier you said canines in humans is one of the reasons you feel we’re meant to eat meat, but now it's for fighting?

I don't think the evolution question is relevant.

The question at hand is: is including meat in your diet detrimental to performance and/or health? And the answer is that there is no objective evidence of that. I'm guessing the 'seminar' was (at best) a bunch of pet theories and spurious links that would not stand up to a proper peer review and would not be explained by experimental evidence with statistical significance.

So I won't argue either way at this point, I'm just still kind of confused because originally (post #11) you mentioned our canine teeth were an indicator of evolving to be 'meant to' eat meat, which I didn't think was correct.... but now the idea is that we have canines because historically we needed to fight off other humans/similar species... which I would agree with. But again, it's not the original argument you made that's all I'm sayin...

It appears that in fact our canines have nothing to do with meat eating then...

I was on a hunting trip with some friends and we met another group of guys on the same trip. The other guys had gone on an African big game hunt. To keep the story short, one of the guys shot a baboon. When he went around the bend to get it on the road in the jungle, it stood up and made the loudest piercing scream he had ever heard. He was about 3 feet away from it. It bared it's fangs and they were about 4" long, judging by how far apart his fingers were when he was telling the story. It was hit with a .270. It made the loud scream and ran into the jungle.

Their guide said to let the baboon go. If they went into the jungle to try and find it, it would find them first. It'll rip a guys arm off and beat everyone else to death with it.

My doctor (professor) confirms this and he is regular marathon runner and specialized in sports cardiology. One week red meat and one white and if I remember correctly thats because you still need some minerals and vitamins from meat that you cant find in plants. Dont get me wrong I love meat but its just isn't as healthy as the plant based alternatives.

I'll save you the effort... there is none.

B12 is the only one found almost only in animal products, but there is actually a plant-source of natural b12 from duckweed.

So, in short, there is no mineral or vitamin you cannot get from plants... even mushrooms can contain vitamin D.

Or buy an extremely cheap b12 supplement.... which will likely provide even better absorption in certain forms and has a more accurate amount by volume.

I guess the question then is how healthy are supplements compared to real food?

What does that even mean? B12 is a vitamin that you need to survive eventually... so... why would it not be 'healthy'?

It's not like the b12 spray or pill has poison in it. If it gives your body the vitamin that increases your body's levels of it... obviously it's adding to your health.

Yeah I guess for one vitamin maybe you can do that but you still will be missing other ingredients that you can take from food. Anyways...

Like I said, anything except b12 is easily found in plant foods... so, what exactly would be 'missing' otherwise?

For example.... if you ate the following for a ~2400 calorie diet, you'd meet ALL your vitamin/mineral needs except b12:

    10oz potatoes
    300g (raw) lentils
    2oz almonds
    200g kale
    150g spinach
    100g oatmeal
    1 cup blueberries
    5oz extra firm tofu

    That's 135g protein, 355g carbs, 52g fat.

And then all you'd need in some sun for vitamin D... done.

Now, would I want to just eat that? No, but i'm just saying it's very simple to do.

Damn thats why I am struggling with the idea of going vegetarian with maybe 1 time a week meat because this is so much food and preparation just to replace meat. Sorry dont mean to hijack this thread ill make a new one with my questions about vegetarian diet.

And to answer your question Adam... I just prefer eating real food since I live on a place near the Mediterranean sea I just go and buy some sardines or any other fish. So I think one time a week eating chicken breast, a good lean steak or fish is not so bad just to have the b12 vitamin.

Yeah I know I am advocating a vegetarian diet kinda or something like the middle way. And we named already what is missing from a vegan diet, unless you want to eat tons of duckweed, who eats that anyways.

Im not preaching dude, I eat salmon a few times a week and I eat some dairy products... but I was 100% vegan for 3 years and I had zero issues getting vitamins and minerals at all...

Even now, i have made only tiny changes compared to when I was vegan, and it's purely for convenience and lifestyle/time factors.

I'm not sure what you mean by that diet being time consuming.... you can buy lentils, cook them in a pot in advance and it lasts for days... or freeze them. Oats, berries, all that other stuff is extremely easy to make... it's not hard at all. You can literally microwave almost everything I put in there... and that was just a random example of a day I built in 2 minutes...

Again, no one is saying you have to be a vegetarian or not eat any animal products.. i'm just saying it's silly to say you cannot meet your nutrient needs while doing so.

it was implied that when I asked my dad I was corrected and should have said I was wrong. When I changed my stance I figured I was eating my own words because it was a different theory on the purpose of the teeth.

Never claimed that you were preaching or that you cant meet your nutrients with vegan diet... just thought I mention that there is a validity in eating meat once a week since you need that b12 vitamin unless you want to eat duckweed or take supplements so in that case you can go full vegan I guess. All good?

Or, you can eat fortified foods which contain it... like nutritional yeast (which it delicious) or certain cereals, non-dairy milk alternatives, etc....
