The game is a few hours away from release (I bought my game from NZ store) and its release for the rest of the world/USA is still about 12 or so hours away give or take.





This thread is for our own impressions and thoughts .... Given the controversies surrounding the game, please dont write open spoilers because there a lot of people who havnt read up on it, so for their sake (I know the spoilers, but I wont be discussing them), lets keep this thread like how we treat any other big release and put spoilers under its relevant spoiler tag.


I hope mods will take an active role in monitoring and making sure people dont try to go out of their way to actively spoil people in this thread. Spoiler talk can be openly discussed in the other 3023490 Last of Us 2 Threads on this board.

Anyway, I'm about 3 hours away from giving my impressions

I'm actually kind of devastated I won't be playing this game after heading the advice of way too many people to check out the spoilers before purchasing.

I feel so, so sorry for dedicated fans of the first game who are going into this game blind.

I was so unbelievably hyped for this game. Ever since that Sony event when the crowd goes crazy once they see the Firefly symbol indicating a sequel... I guess it's true we're hurt hardest by the things we love the most. Feels bad man

First impressions about 3 hours in -




The animations are something else, facial animations and just in general are next level stuff, as usual, Naughty Dog is always a generation ahead of everyone else. Graphics are stunning ... BUT.... This goddamn film-grain isnt doing it any justice, and I cant stand it. This is a personal preference because I hate film grain and always turn it off if I can. I can see what they're trying to do by making it more cinematic, but eh, it'll look so much cleaner without it.


Gameplay is great so far, I love the melee and the dodge button is great, its simple but just gets you more involved in the action. Everything sounds really good as well, guns are loud and have that satisfying oomph and they've upgraded the Clicker sounds, they sound far more menacing and scarier compared to the previous game.

Some of the early dialogue is kinda cringey, but overall it's fine because these are obviously people who now have some sort of semblance and life.

The new character Dinah is alright, I like her.


Also, the accessibility stuff is awesome, lot of amazing ways you can tailor the experience for you, all games should have this. It's not just a way for disabled people to experience it, some of the stuff is pretty neat .... I can make it so that I dont have to press a button to pick up weapons, ammo and stuff with these features lmao.


Now for some spoiler parts as I just reached the first plot point

Abby is a kunt, she's obviously built up as the "villain" from the get go and the game does in no way try to hide that fact that she is something else. Even the lead-up to Joel's murder isnt all that "surprising" with how they've portrayed her, but again I'm coming in with a bias because I already know the spoilers so I was expecting it anyway .... Definitely not happy, but there's a long way to go to see how this all comes together.

But yes, 3 hours in , I'm really enjoying this so far.

Also ran into a few annoying bugs, or at least I think they are ... Sometimes my button prompt to gran enemies doesnt seem to work, I dont know if I'm mistiming but I feel like theres a delay. Also ran into a checkpoint issue where I kept restarting at a point where the clickers were in an alert state , that was annoying, when I started they were all idle. Hopefully it's a one off thing. Just reached the first wide-open area ...... the area is damn big, as fun and nice as it is to explore these areas .... I'd personally have prefered it being a bit smaller .... Uncharted 4 areas were perfect for me. I thought Lost Legacy was a bit too big as well.

Man, this gameplay is so fukkin good. I'm playing on hard right now. The level design, atmosphere and encounters are all so damn good and paced well. Remember in the previous game when you enter a place and you immediately know a fight is gonna take place because of the strategically placed cover ... In this game it looks far more natural design.

Naughty Dog flexing hard ... The vegetation looks like something out of next gen, extremely photorealistic and dense.

I made it to Seattle before I had to go. I'll get a little more tonight, really get into it Sun, when I'm off.

So far, its the same experience as 1 in terms of gameplay (i.e. really good, dark and brutal world), i want my f****ing bow though. Won't go into story till time passes

Started playing it(My ELLIE EDITION pics are in the PS thread). My only complain for now is that trophies are too few. No need to beat on SURVIVAL difficulty unlike the first one.
