Deaths reported in Virginia since February 20th are not recent deaths. They're almost all several months worth of backlogged deaths not reported previously, mostly last year. I thought Virginia's figures before then seemed oddly low, and now we know why. Them dumping these onto recent days has artificially kept the US daily average higher than it genuinely is. AKA the average daily deaths in the US are about to drop 10% in a day. So long as another state doesn't do the same thing, deaths in the US should drop about 50% in the next 2 weeks.

Virginia is like many, a purple state. A swing state.

Regarding state deaths per capita comparison, with death figures falling all around, not much is going to change between states.

If 60 million vaccinated people go on about their day without a mask, almost no one is going to keep wearing them. It does take about 2 weeks from shot to have immunity, so even if one believes masks are effective, there's no reason to tell people to wear them weeks after vaccination shot.
