In my view there is more nuance in the phrase than saying all white police officers are racist ( I am not speaking to the national organization.) I certainly support certain aspects of the movement such as pushing for equal treatment, elimination of racial profiling, reform of policing procedures, elimination of victimless crimes and fixing the justice system such that police officers are actually held accountable. Although, perhaps I am more BLM adjacent, as racism is one corner of a much larger authoritarian problem in my eyes.

Read up and learn about the groups founders.
This group can't do it all, so they focus on certain aspects of issues.

In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter. It was in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman.
sums it up a thread will start off promising and then turn into name calling..

Auschwitz isn't still there to glorify it and to celebrate all of its achievements. Its a reminder to never let anything like that happen again.

Really? I thought it was to celebrate German efficiency. Not serious..sheesh. How can you always point out these things in such a calm manner? You probably have a lot of kids you have to explain everything to daily in a very simple manner.

Yes, I do have 4 boys.

The point was that this is not not why those statues are up, nor why they still stand. If the intent was to learn from, those statues would have been moved in museums where everyone would be able to see them, in context, with explanation of what made them worthy of a statue in the eye of some and why they were removed from public place since then.

Yeah I got your point. The whole reason for having people go to Auschwitz is to teach us about what happened and not just have some random hitler statue around without any context. Actually I think in Germany you're required to learn about the holocaust and they would never remove those memorials.

Pelosi wants three former house speaker photos removed from the halls of Congress. Ffs, how can she be taken serious by anyone, ever.

You're not reading the thread as a whole. Look again at the Auschwitz post. It's preserved as a warning, it's not erased from history. But NOBODY is putting up statues to Hitler, Himmler, or Goebbels in the Reichstag. Removing traitors from places of honor is not the erasure of history.

I think induced_drags' point is that the toppling of statues, etc., etc. will do sweet **** all to affect racism. I think removing the hateful from places of honor is necessary, though, but it's the psychological phenomenon that has to change.
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

In fairness, this forum is really just a tiny microcosm of this website. For the most part, it's still focused on self-improvement.....not so much bodybuilding.

Why is the concept of societal norms so difficult to grasp? 200 yrs ago it was nothing unusual to own slaves, not saying it was right but that was the accepted norm back then. Now days we want to erase all of the things those slave owners did but it will not change a damn thing. I guarantee that in 50-100 yrs our descendants will look back on our current culture and consider a lot of what we now days view as normal as having been barbaric.

What is crazy, and MUCH more current in our history is the blatant misogyny that was so prevalent in our country LONG past the civil rights movement.

It is the women of this country that should be rioting Remove EVERY white male figure who has not been a Democrat, (well that wont work as Clinton and Kennedy were two of the worst) but somehow I think they will be OK to keep. Everyone else....cut the balls off the statues and be rid of anything white male since the founding of this country. THAT is the problem.

How far do you want to go with that? Social norms can be used to excuse just about anything from anybody, as long as it was a "social norm" at the time. At one time it was a social norm for Nazis to kill Jews, do we excuse that? It was a social norm in the south to lynch black people who whistled at a white woman. Is that excusable?

It was the social norm in the mafia to kill anyone who ratted on another member. Should that be excused? It's the social norm in some police departments to turn a blind eye to abuse and brutality. Are we excusing that now? It was the social norm among the Aztecs to slice out the beating hearts of residents from their neighboring cities. Should we have just shrugged and allowed that to continue?

While slave ownership was accepted in some circles, that acceptance was far from universal. There were passionate voices 200 years ago that spoke about the evil of slavery, and how it should be abolished. Were those voices wrong for speaking against a social norm?

There are some ethical values that simply have to transcend the currently accepted customary social practices of the time. Cultures, social systems, customs, traditions, and moralities come and go, changing over time, but the fundamental values of shared humanity, what it means to treat others with respect and dignity, has not changed.
I'm out, standing in my field.

Holy hell El, Corbi was not excusing anything, it's simple to read what he meant, the vast majority of society don't believe in slavery. Some small groups believe in hurting anyone they don't agree with though, white, black, religion etc. some people are evil and they will not change if they don't want to. Some people take bribes and some look the other way out of fear, it's very rarely because it's "excepted".

And one thing Corbi said that is most scary is that 50-100 years from now folks would think we were barbaric? $hit I find this generation to be weak as hell which means they will give up anyone to save their own ass, along with too phucking lazy to call in a delivery order, thats to much work they need the Internet for that. Plus everyone's social media is being judged by bosses, phuck the future!!!

Used to see many poor mofos come and go in the manufacturing business, sometimes we’d see fellas who could not make it a day, those were the excusing Maker’s in life, it wasn’t that hard, all they had to do was show up and be in position.

The ones who stuck with it earned a good living black/white, however there was always a force trying to keep them down, maybe it was thier old friends, but l hear it on the radio, these poor SOB’s talking about how they not going to leave no one in the hood, phucking silly BS, when everyone grows up they sell everyone they know down the river.

It wasn't ever a social norm for Nazis to kill Jews, there was a world war that occurred and stopped that practice, not saying the war was strictly about this but to claim it was normal and accepted is ludicrous.

It wasn't a societal norm to lynch black people, christ how hard are you trying to reach for that? There are always outliers in every society that feel certain acts are acceptable but by and large their numbers are small and frankly those people are just straight up @ssholes.

The point is we can't apologize for all of the sins of the past and it's just something everyone needs to accept and put it behind them and move on. Constantly dwelling on these events is not helping anyone. Nobody you or I know is or was a slave, none of our parents were slaves nor did they own any slaves.

This SMU writeup of a 1910 Texas is fascinating, but the image in it is worth all of the words.

    https://blog.smu.edu/untolddallas/fi...8-1024x642.jpg

This is the middle of downtown Dallas, packed at midday, with a gigantic crowd of people looking at a lynched man named Allen Brooks. Pictures from this lynching were used as postcards.

Obviously the lynching of Allen Brooks is a particularly extreme case, but note that this is in broad daylight in the downtown of what was a major city by Texas standards (though obviously far smaller than it would later become), and the mob of people who seized and strung up Allen Brooks did not wear masks or make any attempt to hide their identities, and men, women, and children alike, of apparently all elements of Dallas society at the time, are gathered together to witness the big event, and then commemorate it as a postcard to send to friends and family.

The next social norm some want coming is every white person must give thier belongings to a black person for the sins of the past, or else........

    So, that right El?????,

That’s what was happening in Seattle, give every black person money.

The fact is many, many whites fought against slavery, and very few whites (I certainly don’t know any, but I’m sure some do) agree with the past and slavery. Sheesh.

Dont think 19 have been released yet. (only pre lim data) Found a news article dated Sept 30 2019 which was for the first release of 18 stats.

So if they keep same time frames, 19 might be available fall of 2020

My guess is the AA community has seen the largest gain in economic advancement under the Trump administration it has ever seen (which you will never see mentioned). Also the first significant criminal justice reform in 30 years happened under Trump.

My guess is crime stats may show a decreasing trend last few years. But since increases in income happened across the board, my guess is the breakdown by race has not changed much. But only a guess.

Interesting stat I found on FBI site, is hate crimes. Anti black hate crimes reported 2018 were 1943. Anti-White were 762. So adjusted for % of populations, African Americans commit significantly more hate crimes against whites than the other way around. On a percentate basis African Americans commit almost 3x the amount of hate crimes against whites. Where is the reporting of this? From the news I dont think I have ever heard a story of a 'hate' crime aginst whites but it happens significantly more by a large factor given population sizes.
